DIY: Getting rid of aftermarket hood bulge. "Shimming" The Fenders
I bought a carbon 8 hood and found that it did not fit correctly. The hood needed a lot of adjustment which was done mainly from the bolts at the hinges to get the hood even with the bumpers and making sure there was no gap between hood and fender.
One last piece of business remained. The hood sat higher than the fender by a good amount. I did some research on the forums and found out about “shimming”. I took the leap while my car was in the shop and shimmed the fenders. It worked like a charm!! For those of you who bought aftermarket hoods and not having it fit right I dedicate this to you!!! This is how I did it. If anyone can improve on my method then by all means!! Tools Needed: 1) 8-10mm socket to remove bolt on top of fenders 2) Magnetic screwdriver 3) A handful of small washers 4) Super glue 5) Longer fender bolts but big enough to fit back into the holes. 6) Hopefully a friend. Steps: 1) Remove the black wire holders on each side of the fenders. It is a piece that covers a large wire that runs along the fender. Pull it straight up. 2) Look at where your hood is bulging up or not fitting right. Keep those areas in mind and lift up the hood. From memory locate around which fender bolts they were. 3) This is where you will be “shimming” the fenders. I started by gluing 3 washers together. 4) If you have a friend, have him pull up on the fender lining. Pull straight up. Don’t worry about damaging anything because the fender is extremely flexible. 5) With your hands, slide in the glued washers to get them over the bolt hole lining. 6) If it slides around use the magnetic screwdriver to help line it up. 7) Once it is lined up with the holes have your friend let go of the fender so that it rests on the washers. 8) Now, close the hood and see if the bulge is going away. On my bulges I ended up using 3 washer stack for the driver side and 4 washer stacks for the passenger side. 9) If you are happy with the results just use the longer bolts you bought and screw it in. 10) Do the same for anywhere else the hood bulges. Do not do this to any area that is not bulging! 11) You may start to freak that the portion of the fender that meets the headlight now sticks up. Don’t freak! Just push down on the fender in that area and use the stock bolt to screw it down. You cannot screw it in tight though. Screw it in just enough to match the hood and look flush. You can also “shim” the fender where it meets the headlight as well. 12) Use the pics for reference. Enjoy the pics!!!!

the bulge wont go away 100% but it will be about 90-95% gone.. it won't be a big eyesore. Are there some that fit 100%? of course there are.. those guys are the lucky ones and unless you bought it local you are def. not going to ship it back as it costs an arm and a leg. Like any aftermarket stuff, you got to fiddle with it...
