Winter RFT or not ?

Hi guys,

I'm new to the BMW community and I have a question regarding winter tires.

I recently went to the dealer and the rep "strongly" recommand me to get RFT for the winter. I drive a 335xi so I'm wondering if it's really worth it to pay extra $ to get Winter RFT ?

Thanks

Winter is a time that you really don't want to be changing a flat tire.

That being said, I use non run flat winter tires and keep a Continental kit in my trunk.

Your dealer sees $$$
It's like buying any insurance, it's yup to you to decide the risk of rft vs non-rft.

If you have a puncture or leak and it's minus 30 and snowing are you going to wish you had run flats?

To be honest 1 out of every 10 sets of winter tires we sell to BMW owners are RFT. It's purely personal preference, but I suggest non-RFT with a solid tire repair kit and you're all set.

I went with winter tires RFT...got them from tirerack, so no dealer pricing

I prefer the sharp turn in offered by run flats and their stiff side walls. And of course the convinience of RFT.

+1 - great prices (18" LM-60's) at Tire Rack and the stiff side walls replicate my summer 19". I was on Non-RFTs in my E90 330XI (4 years) and last year on my E93. I had an issue that the "can of tire repair could not fix" ... having said that, one of my summer RFT's belt delaminated in July - either way no spare but being stranded in July is better than January!

If you go with RFT tires, and they're mounted--we had problems with a new-to-us 530 XIT 2 winters ago.
The rims for the 4 wheel drive wagon were a different offset than the RWD car.
Just a head's up...
