Three days on street rubber and they were toast, so the economics work with race rubber. Granted, if you haven't spent ~5-10 days on track, I'd stick with street rubber, it's much more predictable. |

Thanks. I'll be only doing a couple of HPDE's per year, so I might just get the cheaper street tires. I'll be spending too much time on my CRG/Rotax TAG Kart going 80mph 1" off the ground.

I'm considering 18" Volks RE30 for my e92 335i, since they are very light and very strong (forged). I'm thinking of Toyo R1R 255/35/18 rubber. Very sticky. Toyo typicaly saves weight than have a strong tirewall. That is why I'm thinking of running them at the width of 9.5" et35 instead of 8.5" et35 in all corners. Based on the info below, it seems that basically 8.5" should fit in front e92, but 9.5 might not, although the tire width is the same 255. Is it the wheel or is it the fact that the tire is a bit wider because it is stretched on a wider wheel? Is it tire or wheel that would hit the suspension? I have stock suspension now, but considering options for upgrading without dropping too much (e.g. KW3 at the highest possible settings, but it will be slightly dropped still. Or Tein Euro Damper with less drop.)
I could order a pair of 9.5" wheels and a pair of 8.5" wheels and still run 255 in all corners, if it is needed to get them fit. That would also give a chance to run 225 in front. How much do you think it would make a difference to run 255 on 8.5" vs 9.5"? Btw, why are people saying that staggered cannot be circulated? I would think circulating would really be the cure for the understeer... So one option would be to circulate the rear to front at the track since the fronts take the heat there and change them back for the street. PS. Toyo R1R are wide for their size. Quote:

I think 245s will fit..not sure about 255..it all depends on the the tire and wheel offset. I personally dont want to get stuck with something that rubs, and I cant return them.

Got a new set up. A slight tweak on Todd and Left's setup: Kosei K1 (17x8.5), Yokohama ADVAN A048 (245/40). Should arrive in time for my next track day on Friday.

I would also go with 17's if they fit - and use the same size all around. like 255's at each corner.
I perfer to change the tires in the comfort of my own garage and drive on the tires to the track. and not mess with the interior of the car.
