Windscreen cracked, not from stonechip ... Faulty?

Today on my drive home, I noticed that siddenly at the bottom of my windscreen a crack suddenly appeared, within seconds it then cracked all the way up the windscreen.

After calling Autoglass and my insurance (£60 excess) I then had a thought, is this a manufacturing defect that I could take back to BMW? I'm out of warranty so I suspect there's nothing I could do but had to question is here just to see what people thought. It wasn't like a stonechip or anything caused the crack, it happened about 15 seconds after turning on my blower to point at the windscreen...

Garage List
.....ask Gavin from Autoglass, he can fix anything just by squirting his 'special resin' in the crack

Apparantly it is a bi-product of t'Otters

I don't suppose you didn't put your windscreen blower on until your van had been running a fair while did you?

I think mine might have been caused by the outside temp being so cold and then as my engine was fully warm and I directed it at the windscreen for the first time the difference in temp caused it to crack?

Only logical explanation I can seem to come up with in my head.

£60 to get it fixed ... they said a new windscreen from the dealers would be approx £700, so I guess I can't really moan too much!

My cracked last week due to a stone! I asked for a BMW screen due to the rain sensor, climate comfort and green band. I was informed that BMW no longer supply any screen with the green band, so I have had to have BMWs alternative. Bit crap really
