Tinting the rears help

So since my car is now rejuvenated I'm thinking of tinting and de-chroming the chromeline. I've got someone in Reading apparently who can do both, thanks to Meg's for the contact.

So question is what percentage tint is good. Obviously don't want to go too dark!

35% for front sides (as currently on mine)

45% for rear sides and rear screen (as my previous E91, current has OEM sun protection of similar %)

While on the subject of tinting, I'm due to have my 3 series done in the morning, it just occurred to me the tints will render the auto diming rear view mirror useless, which isn't a problem , but I presume also the dimming door mirrors, so do BMW recalibrate the sensor for a factory tint?

In the head? Seriously... major work then. They re-built the whole head while they were at it I hope.

Intake or exhaust valves?

Intake manifold. Random occurrence in N52 engine. Same happened in a 525i engine. See http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...2&postcount=63

Not read the link yet. So not valves in the head then!

Under warranty?

I had my E92 335i tinted last week.

Lightest smoke on the front windows, light smoke on the rears and smoke on the rear window. Very gradual and looks spot on, with the 3 films on the car.

The auto dimming on my mirror still seems to work fine- it was definitely dimmed last night anyway.

I am not sure if the saloons have the same problem as the coupes with the dot-matrix on the top of rear window, but the guy that did mine made a cracking job of it and its not noticeable atall.

Got a quote from the guy recommended to me in Reading and his price was £275 for the rears plus £160 for doing the shadowline trim around the windows which is way over the budget. So gonna stick to the tints for the moment . I'm considering MStyle since they price match and I won't have to travel so far...what is the difference between

Mstyle Window tinting
Window tinting of rear and side windows

Here's link. Any comments appreciated.

Not on the last three cars in the last 5 years and 40,000 miles per year. Auto dimming mirrors had worked fine on the last e91 which didn't have tints as standard.

See my garage for the current front tints with OEM sun protection on the rest.

Previous e91 with tints all round and V50

jke11y - Hi, can you post some pics when you get chance. I've been looking to do this but nervous about the dot matrix issues.

Cheers

As long as your installer is good he will minimise the visibility as best as possible. Then on warm days you need to keep pushing the tint film into the dots. Doesn't ever remove the issue but seriously improves it.

Regarding the dot matrix bit at the top of rear window, tints are not perfect, i.e. there is a couple of small areas where the film is slightly "whiter" around the dotmatrix bit, but the rest is 100% perfect. You would have to look for the dotmatrix bit, and even then its not worth mentioning. Unless you were "one of those" types of folk that moan about everything :-)

I paid £150 for the entire car. It looks like factory glass on the sides, its spot on. Will try and get some pics soon but its not easy with the lack of daylight!
