330i ECU upgrade effectve?

I know that a lot of companies, like dinan, have made ecu upgrades for the 325 but not the 330, because the 330's engine has already been tuned pretty agressivley and therefore not able to have that much more power extracted from it. I was looking at the TECNIC 330 (which is SO nice, btw) and saw that it had supersprint exhaust and headers, gruppe m air intake, and this ecu upgrade. I was planning on getting the BMW Performance intake/exhaust, as i was assuming that was really all that could be done to the car, until i saw this chip.

http://www.technikpower.com/site/pro...3D%26filter%3D

Do you guys think it would be effective, and really give the car +15 hp, which is what it states. (It also states that the gruppe intake will give it +15, and the supersprint headers alone will give it +14, when the BMW Performance intake and exhaust are said to give the car 5-10 each max. Just wanted your opinion on how accurate the specs for these parts are...thanks

I dunno about technik.....but over here, we have the euro 330i (like mine) with approx 268hp (272ps). And big companies like G-power claim 15hp increase and hamann claims a +17hp with 25Nm increase. these companies are known for tuning bmw's.

Always make sure that the company have done other bmw's and do check on the forums if any member has that chip or ecu tune or watever...hope this helps.

meh....

My 330i is supposed to be 255hp....but when it was put on a dyno. Only 190 to the wheels.

I would make sure you know if they are talking about hp overall, or whp. If they quote up to +10 hp gain for any particular product....likely it is just an increase in 3-5 whp on a dyno based on product variability and power loss through the drivetrain.

So, only you can decide if the money you are investing is worth the whp you are getting.

Most people would tell you, that the whp gains are not worth the money you are being asked to put out for them.

+ you can't 'add' all these mods' project HP together to come up with a 300+ hp figure

back when I dynoed my car with no 3-stage intake manifold, I dynoed it with the following and recieved 195 whp:

Dinan Ram-air Intake, DTE software, and RD Sport exhaust.

Those gave me 195 to the wheels. Now I have the 3-stage intake manifold with EVOTech's Stage I 330i software. I will be swapping my software for the Technik Stage II though.

What I'm saying is you had a bad dyno. Because if you're getting 190 to the wheels, basically a 325 with software intake and exhaust has more hp.

Well, the dyno was done by Technik when they used to be in Marina Del Rey...so, I believe those numbers were accurate on that day for my car (192-195 depending on the run).

Of course if you take a 325 and do software, intake and exhaust...you will gain some hp. But...you are still only approaching what a stock 330 can do. And if you are going above it....by how much? 5-15 hp? How much did all that cost? $250-$300 per hp? Plus, take a 330 to begin with...how much will the numbers change if you try to do any of those mods....NOT BY MUCH.

Not worth it to me. Because the OP is asking about ECU upgrades for the 330 and whether anything is worth it. If OP was asking about changes to 325....then you can consider things to be more bang for the buck. (but not by much!)

Ahhh...here we go. Found out our result for that day. All stock cars. 330 6MT vs 330 step vs 325 6MT vs 325 step. You be the judge of what is worth it or not based on what they are trying to sell you.

Either way, i already have a 330, i was just trying to see if the ECU upgrade would be effective on my car, i kno it would help a 325. So when he says that he noticed a "HUGE DIFFERENCE IN PERFORMANCE," it probably just got it closer to the stock performance of my car, which...doesnt really mean that the chip will help mine.

or he cud have been just hearing things... butt dyno. you can't tell how much power you have by just accelerating and going through the gears... which is probably what he did.
