6MT Problem

Ok so today I was driving and my 2nd gear got stuck. Now when I shift from 1st to 2nd the shifter gets stuck and requires a lot of force to move and when downshifting from any other gear in to 2nd, the shifter kicks back into neutral. I've had quite a few cars and none have ever done this on me. Any ideas? It's going to the dealer tomorrow for interior trim warranty work so hopefully they'll fix whatever is wrong with it while it's there. Has anybody else experienced this?
Oh, and it's an 06 330i with 57,250 miles

Sucks to hear.

I have 74,000+ miles now and haven't had a problem yet *knock on wood*

However the problem I have is 1st gear cuz sometimes I won't be able to shift into it when car's at a rest. I'll have to shift to 2nd real quick to re-align the gears then shift into 1st.

I have the same problem except my gear is stuck at Reverse instead of 2. It takes me 3-4 tries to get it in all the way. But my car only as 22k miles..

Hopefully your dealership is friendly. My friend had an issue with his 335i and they replaced the transmission at around 35k miles. It's a 6MT as well.

damn i dint know its a problem! i did a CDV mod already. cuz shifting from 2nd to 3rd it dont go in sometimes or am i a nooby driver! sike. im not. but it get stuck when shiftin fast tho. so iuno but if it get worster i have to put on back the oem cdv and bring it in.

I have a short throw shifter but hopefully that's not a problem since BMW sells one as well. Find out later today......

That's what I thought. I took it in but they want me to remove the short shifter and reinstall the original before they make a call to a BMW field service rep.

did you install the factory shifter? i am also having trouble shifting, except my problem is first gear. I try to put it in first, it will not go in, so i have to put in third or second, and then put it in first. I have to find the time to bring it in.

mine does that time to time it its like the gear wont go in but if you let the car roll it will.

Haven't had time yet as I've been traveling a bunch visiting people the last week or two but over the past couple weeks, and around 1k miles, I have not had the problem again so I don't know what's going on with it now.

This was happening to me at any speed. 0mph, 25mph, 50mph etc. Rolling certainly helped nothing on mine.

you get stuck in the gear or locked out? Does it grind/ can you feel it touching in your hand?

Sometimes it would pop out when you threw it into 2nd and other times it would get stuck and take a lot of force to get out of gear.

when it pops out that means it wasnt full engaged that has happened to me when I shift softly.

I had my tranny changed at 9k miles now im at 24k. I have clutch bearing noise and my clutch is pretty worn as well.

335 tranny feels 100X better

I slammed the shifter back hard multiple times, it just wouldn't engage and the BMW tech that drove it had the same issue so it's not that I was shifting softly. In fact, the first time it started acting up I was driving pretty aggressively and slamming all the gears home but 2nd gear just wouldn't stay. And my wife said it's happened to her a few times when driving at slow speeds through parking lots (the gear sticking, not popping out.)

after reading this, i realized I have all of the problems you guys had (not going in 1 sometimes, not going in reverse, not going in 3 from 2, grinds when i touch it sometimes), but i dont have the gear poping out of 2 yet..

is this common to all manuals or just bmws?
