Since it's a thick plastic coating on the wood trim, you can use Novus 2 plastic polish. Works great.

Do you just rub it in by hand or use a porter cable polisher?

Assuming you are referring to the coated interior wood found in most cars I'd use a very light polish on it. The Meguiar's Scratch X 2.0 and Menzerna Micro Polish SF 4500 (PO85RD) are two of my favorites. They will help remove very very light swirls, oxidation and other surface stains. I typically do this by hand with a foam applicator and buff away the excess by hand with a clean microfiber towel. If you have any questions please let me know.

the menzerna polish works very well on many things, also try out swissvax wood polish, i love it.
