My old 335xi had snows and I picked up my current one mid winter and I was fine even with pro-contacts.

I am a manager for Discount Tire and I'm fortunate to get new snows every year.

Regarding the 6MT.. Anybody change their clutch out on their garage floor? Would rather not do that again. It was a PITA with my Cobalt. If you took it to a shop, where did you go? And how much? Reason I ask is one 335i I'm looking at has like 95k miles on it and I'm just gonna guess its on its factory clutch.

eek. don't jump the gun on a 335i with 95k miles. take your time and search for a lower mileage car.

I guess just seeing the mileage made me think about the whole clutch thing. Ideally, I'm looking for something around 50k.

Drove mine all last winter. Remember that one morning where we had a heavy snow and there was several inches on the ground? Well I drove down Woodward without an issue, I actually passed an AWD Subaru that spun out and was facing the wrong way due to slush (and probably on all seasons!)

Okay, yeah. I definitely won't rule out an "i" then.

One more question for you guys.. Since I'm only 20, I've been paying out the ass for insurance. My Cobalt doesn't even have full coverage on it since it's just super expensive with Allstate, even PLPD.

The bimmer will be my first auto loan, and I'm just shopping around for insurance quotes, and they're like $300/mo!
Any suggestions to where I could get some nice insurance for a decent price!?

you won't see a decrease in insurance until you're at least 25. you're in the most expensive age range.

be careful your first winter, especially if you don't have much experience driving rwd. personally, i'd recommend a cheaper rwd car to learn on before taking on a BMW.

That's annoying. Oh well.. Pay to play. After my down payment, should have roughly like $10k to pay off, and I won't mod until that's done. Even then.. I don't wanna skimp on the insurance for this car.
But the way the search is going I probably won't have to worry about driving in the snow.

You could always put the car in your dads name or mom and pay them for the insurance. That's what I do

No offense but why does everyone freak out when these are in the 100k mile range. Just replace the common issue parts (which aren't hard) and enjoy the car. I would much rather have a well maintained high mileage car than one with a spotty or questionable history. Or just pay more for a low mileage one.

There are some really good deals out there on "high" mileage 335's. I got a crazy deal on mine.

I will say only thing that sucks is a damn trans flush. $700 for it total, and that was through the guy who rolled my fenders. Have to save for that.

I need front rotors though, might go slotted, recommended ones?

I was talking to my dad and he said that we might have to do this so I'm not going broke paying to drive my car. BTW, are you on CSS.net? Or were.

I'm not too scared as long as it was maintained. The n54's in the 100k+ miles are less than 20k. That's pretty nice, but I'd definitely prefer a lower mileage car.I only had my last car for just over two years, and I plan to make this car my last one for awhile so I'd rather have to rack on those miles myself, lol.

You should have no issue finding a 80-100k mile 335 for in the 13-15k range.

80k for 15k would something I'd be interested in, definitely. The pickings are slim out there, and I'm just waiting to for my car to appear.

I was looking more into the packages as well, and I know sport is a must, but was also interested in cold weather and nav. Would be sweet if I could get all those in a e90 with a 6MT.

Just watch autotrader etc. don't be afraid to look for ones farther away if your set on packages and colors. Cold weather is a big plus in Michigan. Your going to find more places that will try and charge 2-3k more just for the fact it's a manual and sedan.

Not set on any color, would prefer those packages, but not a huge deal breaker if the price is right. It's all a waiting game, and I'm willing to wait.

It's not free, just at a way lower rate then it would be in my own name. I have a little Honda I have in my name because legally u have to have a car in everyone in your family or who's on the insurance on a car. So I'm on a 1995 Honda that I got as a commuter and my father is on the BMW.
