Is 3 oz of balancing weight excessive?

I ordered a set of Miro 942 18" staggered (8.5 front 9.5 rear) wheels with Continental Extreme Contact DW tires from BavarianX. They just arrived and three of the four wheels have 3 oz worth of 1/4 oz sticky weights on them.

Is that an excessive amount of weight for balancing?

Almost a quarterpounder's worth of weight...nah.. Doesn't sound like a lot when talking about a burger, but when talking about the amount of uniformity of a round wheel, it does sound like a good bit.

Maybe tpms is the issue, but my stock wheels dont have much.

That is pretty normal for wheels with TPMS as you are adding more weight to one side of the wheel. I have balanced hundreds of wheels and once in a blue moon I get a perfectly balanced wheel that does not require any wheel weights.

Not excessive at all.

Thanks everyone. It just looked like a bunch of weight lined up on the wheel like that.

3oz of weight is normal and typically anywhere from 5oz+ would be excessive.

3oz of weight is normal. Like Alan said, 5oz+ is a lot.
