I think my Car Backfired???

Been in ottawa for week and got back last night.

My car is garaged in our house...but it's unheated but still, never drops below 0 degrees celsius.

Thought I'd fire it up this morning and WOW, the roughest start Ever.

For the first 30 seconds the RPMS went crazy Up and Down..and then at one point it sounded almost like a backfire...

of course the performance exhaust is very unique but for you in the cold belt....how does it sound/react upon initial start up in the mornings this week?

After the first 30 seconds it completely smoothed out...but still...

No issues like that - it rumbles and runs at about 1200 RPM for about 30 seconds and then slowly eases down to it's normal idle position. I've had no issues like that - sounds a little weird. The cold morning rumble in the garage makes sure that nobody sleeps in..... Took it for a run down to Lethbridge on the weekend - it cruises really nicely at 125 and there's plenty of push if you need to move past some highway bobo.....

No luck following up from your sales rep? I have heard things about that place, I hope for your sake...they are wrong.

I bought mine at Calgary BMW so it won't help but I did let my salesguy in Calgary know..he even went and talked his shop foreman to get some kind of clue...now that's service.

Finally got a hold of Bavaria and am taking it in NEXT Monday...

It's a Yellow Check Engine Light (not red) so apparently I can still drive it.

You might have a bad fuel/air mix due to a cracked seal/intake hose or not enough air is getting into the combustion chamber. I had experienced what you are describing with the rpm rough start in my previous 330.

She's purring like a kitten now and the start is a bit better but it's still a bit wonky.

Will find out next Monday what is wrong...actually they are making me leave it overnight....

Is Bavaria giving you a loaner? How did you end up there and not Edmonton BMW?

There are lots of rep brands. Not all are good. Gotta do some research before buying. Having said that, you are safer with 17's and 18's anyways. More tire to protect from bends.

I usually run a higher pressure in my tires. 40psi. You have a bit of added cushion when you hit put holes and better tire wear. Little bit bumpier ride though.

Original OEMs are very good quality.

Like poster said...with Replicas you gotta do some research. I got mine OEM Concepts in Montreal, they came with some good references.

Paid I believe 1750.00 (or near there) shipped to my door, taxes in.

Paid 40 bucks for install yesterday.

I downgraded for winter from the 19" from 17". Contrary to logic, the smaller the tire the better the traction. I don't think there was a huge difference between the 17's and 18's but I still went with 17", way more room in the wheel well for the tire to move around when the ice/snow jams in there.
