Number 6 was bad both ways, lol
Why did yours go bad anyways?

X5 has the top plastic partitions made of crap plastic known to crack and leak water onto the engine cover. The engine cover has this spongy material that holds moisture and corrodes the back injectors. I was getting occasional stalls with code for bank 2. Eventually on a rainy day, I couldn't get the engine to stay running for more than a few seconds. When i read about the x5 issues, I tested the injectors and found issues with 5 and 6.

That's weird cause my sponge was wet too and small puddles in the valve cover.
And my passenger front carpet gets wet too.

I'm not sure of the e90 "features" lol but you might be able to find out what to check for the leaks sunroof drains, plastic engine compartment stuff etc

I removed the foam crap by not using the engine cover. Your choice, it's just cosmetic and reduces a bit of sound...

I would like to thank everyone you chipped in on helping my out. The smoking problem was one or two of injectors stuck open. Which caused the smoking at idle and driving. It also raised my oil level up by two more quarts. Awhile I had the intake off I finally put my flap deletes in. But no more smoke and finally I can drive something that's fun but I still love my tdi Passat.

The carpets being wet might be the drains under the ecu and the brake booster. Cleaning the ecu one is a pain.

Edit: that's the x5, not sure what drains the 3 has, sorry
