GIAC Re-flash cost

I am looking at the GIAC stage1 flash for my 2010 535i. I contacted my local GIAC dealer this week to inquire about price. They quoted me $800. I then asked them what they charge for a re-flash in case my car would have to go into the BMW dealership for any warranty work, software updates, HPFP issues, ect ect where the GIAC tune might be overwritten. They basically said "we may be able to re-flash it once under warranty". I asked for clarification on "may be able to ". Their response was a re-flash would be full retail again (another $800) but in the interest of good customer service they would try and work with me on that??? WTF? Maybe I missing something here but from what I can tell reading the GIAC info in this forum, some dealers re-flash for no charge while others charge anywhere from $50 bucks to 1 hours labor tops. Can someone please confirm this info. I am really interested in the tune but not if I have to pay for it twice.

Thanks!

It shouldn't be $800. They be on that coke. Usually, dealers would give you 1 free courtesy reflash and their hourly rate after that. It's usually ranges from $50 to $100.

when you buy it you own it for the VIN of your car. This means you can get it flashed whenever you want and pay just the cost of the time it takes to do the procedure which is 1 hour.

It's up to your dealer if they want to charge for a reflash. GIAC doesn't have anything to do with it.

My local chargers $50...considering it takes about an hour...very reasonable.

Lawyers charge $275/hr typically....so you are getting off cheap.

Mine was 800 to install, first time it needed reflashed was free (most giac dealers give one reflash for free), after that 50 bucks a reflash!

That's what I thought. Most giving one re-flash for free and then either $50 bucks or 1 hours labor to do it. This particular GIAC dealer told me that if the BMW dealer "made a mistake" of deleting the tune it was not their problem. While I understand that it is no fault of the GIAC dealer if the flash gets overwritten by BMW, I think it was a ridiculous statement and assumption for them to think that anyone would pay another $800 for something that at most would only be 1 hours labor cost to them. Guess I will have to check out another GIAC dealer in Illinois, maybe one of the Chicago area dealers.

i would actually CALL GIAC and let them know what this dealer is telling you so they can spank him a bit.... they are just trying to rip you off. Every customer has its own file connected to the VIN.

What dealer was this in IL? There are only a small hand full and I wonder if that's the same story they told other people on this board in IL or are they looking to take you for a ride.

Several people have went to DubWorks recently.

You own the tune, you are just paying the labor to install it to them, they are just trying to juice you out of 800 bucks as they pay nothing to GIAC again, once you own the tune, they can download and install all they want to your VIN.

As others have said, that dealer is wrong, my GIAC dealer charges a half hour labor to reflash the car as many times as I want.
