LED License Plate Light - Too Bright??
I need some opinions here.
I decided to get some aftermarket LED license plate lights today while I was getting my brakes done and I can't decide if I want to swap them back to OEM or not. They are blindingly bright (note the light reflecting off of the cement on the ground) and I'm concerned they will be distracting to motorists. Maybe Im just not used to it because I had OEM lights previously, but I wish they were just a little more subtle. Thoughts? EDIT: I want to also add that the product itself is very high quality and looks very modern. If you are looking for something cleaner and brighter than OEM I would highly recommend upgrading. Im just an OEM "purist" so I tend to stay away from aftermarket looking upgrades.

Im not sure of the brand , the logo on the light housing says "Reliable", but I picked them up at BavX for really cheap and installed free. Turner sells the same exact product but a lot more expensive.
Here are the lights found online: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-28...0-e70-e71.aspx Got mine from here: http://www.bavarianx.com/default.asp (thanks again for everything guys!)

I don't quite understand your concern. How would them being too bright be distracting? If anything it would increase visibility. Light doesn't reflect off asphalt that well.

Not distracting to me.. distracting to other motorists. Kind of like when youre driving in front of that monster lifted F-350 with the aftermarket super blue xenon lights. I dont want to be THAT guy...

That does look too bright and takes away from the cool tail lamps. Try the OEM led on the 09-11 e92's. Its about 2 levels less bright than that.

i agree its too bright. I saw a 335i the other night on silver and from far away on the freeway it looked like the car had its reverse light on. (the wrong attraction to cops) slighly brighter than stock would be ideal but these leds optons now are just crazy!

Thats exactly what I want.. just slightly brighter than stock LED. Anyone know of a less flashier brand?

I know what you meant. It wouldn't distract me personally. But objectively speaking they ARE pretty bright for LED plate lights.

My mtec LEDs were also overly bright, so I put JB vinyl from a tint shop over 3/4 of the LED strip on each side... To achieve the "slightly brighter than OEM look".

here's what I did in response to lower the Mtec LED brightness. Lighting pattern is uniform and I just used jet black vinyl(same material I used for reflector delete). Vinyl is just over housing. .... MegaPix FTW.

Man with the states' governments all being broke and the ensuing DUI/speeding ticket frenzy to increase revenue, the last thing I'd want is to draw attention to someone following me.
Remember.. any more than 1 drink per hour (and sometimes that is enough) and you're driving drunk |
