Would this tempt you out your BMW

This looks amazing

If only they make it RWD.

Fiat group are not the laughing stock they used to be, they've got class leading engines (multi air) and with a dash of style and build qualitiy they'd be on to a winner.

God I want one.

No chance, I do love the look of some Alfa's but they don't pack the punch of a BMW. Also my mate has a year old one which rattles like a piece of tin-can rubbish after 20k.

So its a bit like M@rks Mercedes then....

Decent set of engines ought to do the trick and if it were to be made properly it should be no worse.

Tell you a story, my mate as a 147 Alfa and an E320cdi estate. The Afla is a 2003 car, the MB a 2005. The alfa had a scratch to the door and paint off, its still not rusty.

His Mercedes has wheel arches that would give you tetnus as has had loads of other MB niggles and no issues with the Alfa.

Yes the trim is a bit dour and plasticy, but the basic car seems alright.

Will it be though? It will be sold on PCP/lease/contract hire etc so the buyer will just pay a monthly (and that will be low to compete with the germans) and a deposit.

The true value of the car may well be something the buyer is not exposed to.

Someone has to pay for the depreciation and it won't be the lease company. Only way will be for Alfa to subsidise the lease company or agree a buy back figure.

Contary to what some believe people leasing a car are still paying for depreciation, they just are removing the uncertainty of future values.

Alfa have made some stunning cars, but many of the current range are very bland.

Some folk say you aren't a true petrolhead until you own an Alfa.

I can't see myself going there soon.

Owned Alfasuds as a young man. Exquisite steering and handling. Atrocious build. Rusted within a year of new. Too old for all that shit. I'll stay with the 'safe' BMW thanks.

There hasn't been a fast 'normal' Alfa for years. The Brera, 159 and Coupe are all gash and I expect this will be similar.

I DO like the old 1.9 and 2.4 JTD engines though and if I was driving a 320d now, then a correctly priced Giuletta saloon with the 2.4 (or current equivalent) might tempt me, but only with significant savings over a BMW.

As for comparing them to Mercs.... I don't care about Merc. I drive a 335i and nothing Alfa have done compares - I'd hazard now it's modded, my 335 is probably about as quick as that overpriced 'supercar' they dropped a few years ago.

The gist of my post is that it's all about priorities. If I wanted all show and no go, I might be interested at the right price.

I had an Alfa 33 cloverleaf (boxer) many moons ago when my kids were toddlers. That car single handedly gave the kids a phobia with auto carwashes. Looked a right tit when watery came through everywhere and I had to push it out the car wash looking like I'd just had a shower and screaming kids in the back

Never again will I own Alfa, no matter how sexy they look.
