Ideally I'd like to use the stock lights and just replace the innards with the innards of something like this:

someone is currently experimenting with something like this (putting a projector inside the fog light housing. do a search and you'll probably find him. He hasn't actually posted any working pics yet tho. I just installed a regular xenon kit without the projector and i love it! make sure you get a good resistor kit though otherwise you will get a bulb-out error message. GL!

HID fogs have been done many times. The problem is that most kits will throw errors.

+1 many have attempted in the past (do a search: HID + fog ). You'll see that most will throw errors.

I really dont see the point in having super bright fogs. IMO fogs are positioned low and they're not supposed to be too bright so that they dont reflect off the water particles thus helping you see the road. Other than to look cool/good, I really dont see the point in having HID fogs. My $.02

Also, HID = higher K color rating. The whole point of fog lights is to have more visability in those conditions. Call me a ricer, but that's why I like lower K ratings for fogs (more towards yellow).

You're not a ricer; fogs with lower K ratings are functional, they actually help you see better. But nowadays, people don't care about visibility, that's why you're seeing people upgrading their stock HID bulbs to 10,000 K ones

I did this before on my Infiniti, it didn't have the ability to monitor the lighting system so no worries about any error codes coming up, but to be perfectly honest I never used them after that. For whatever reason I found it a bit tacky to be running with 4 xenon HID's in the city.

I like bright lights pointing low because our roads here in the north east are littered with potholes that are hard to see at night. We don't get much fog either. I treat these lights as "driving" lights mostly.

I think it is a waste of your time and money - if you want them to look more like HID's, just get xenonmatch bulbs (http://www.hoen-usa.com/fog.htm) that throw the same color and it will look the same on the highway for like 30 bucks.

i call BS. Are you telling me that Halogens with some aftermarket bulbs (i.e. 4300k color bulbs) are going to put out the same output as our OEM Xenons or an aftermarket HID kit. If people wanted just the color, then yes changing the bulb is the obvious thing to do. But most people that go with aftermarket HID kits want the OUTPUT of light.

And i really doubt it will look the same on the freeway. With HID fogs, i can go driving around with no headlights on and it will be as if my xenons were on. I dare you to try that with some random aftermarket bulb in your fogs.

to OP. I've been thinking about HID fogs too but as of right now, it seems as if its not worth the hassle. Every company out there that made HID kits for our fogs claim no errors but in the end, people always throw error. Maybe you can try UED's kit since they garuntee no error, but for now ill wait till there is a true plug and play kit with no error.

Are you out of your mind ? I have HID fogs. I'm sure anyone here that has them can tell you how much they light up the road at night. To compare them to a 20 dollar bulb is pretty ignorant.

No doubt it will look cool, but it will be very impractical in the fog. With that said, I'm still getting mine installed tomorrow.

I know a few of members on here have gotten HID fogs from [somewhere else] and have had great success. Zero error codes and a cheaper price than anyone else on here...

ironic has some HID fogs on his e92 from a vendor on here that comes w/ a canbis fix and works on 07+ e92s w/ NO errors (per vendor). They are in the Marketplace for vendors under lighting...forgot the vendor.

I think it depends on where you are located...here in SoCal, we almost never need the fogs, so running an HID kit isn't necessarily impractical.

On the other hand, it makes you an easy target for a cop that you might be running up to in the dark. HID fogs and headlights = street racer (at least that's my opinion when I see those 4 bright lights).
