Would my 320d benefit a remap?
Hi guys
I'm a newbie to the forum and just recently got my first BMW a 2008 320d SE. I love the car to bits but find the power of it a bit underwhelming. My last car was a golf mk4 tdi 130 and it felt more powerful than this one although the torque and bhp were lower. It could be that this is a much quieter and smoother car and I just don't feel the speed or that this is one is heavier. My golf's turbo used to kick in at about 2000 revs and you could really feel it pull but this one feels more like 3000 and I'm not sure it would do the stated 0-60 in 8.1 seconds. I've been reading through the forums and have seen E-maps gets mantioned quite a bit so would probably go with them. They state that it would take up my bhp to 212 which seems quite good. I just wondered what you guys thought and would I be happy with the results? Cheers Rob |

bought a 320d se 7 months ago....had it remaped 6 months and a half months ago by Simon and never regreted it.
DO IT, DO IT NOW!!! You will see slightly better mpg after the first month, the first month's driving wont be very economical as you will have a constaint grin on your chevy chase!! Although your turbo should be spooling up at around 2000rpm...has yours had a replacement yet? Have heard they sometimes need adjusting after they have been fitted. |

Hi foxy
I have sent Simon from e-maps a message and just waiting on him getting back to me You know I'm not too sure if the turbo has been replaced or not. I will have to look at the paperwork I got with it to see if it has been done. mpg wise on a good motorway run I can see 55mpg plus. On my commute to work I see about 39 but that is stopping and starting every few hundred yards with driving through the city. The extra mpg would be a nice bonus though. Maybe the turbo does kick in at 2000 but I just don't feel the same pull as I did with the golf. Hopefully the remap will change this. |

hi rob77,
Some people have had problems with the auto gear box not coping too well with the extra power. Im not sure if yours is an auto. Just something to be aware of. Not done it yet myself. yet...

Hi mv57
Mines a manual so hopefully won't have any problems. What I do find sometimes is that 1st and 2nd gear feel a bit jumpy. It could be just down to me coming from a different car and that I need to get used to the biting point. |

That's good to hear golfmck. I'm just waiting on Simon now to call so I can get it booked in.
What bhp are you running if you don't mind me asking and also what other mods have you done to the engine? |

You need to get it remapped, immediately.
Consider replacing the MAF sensor and having the EGR valve cleaned if power is coming in so late. You should feel it from 1700 rpm at full force. I had the above done as my power was slowly getting further and further away; and it resolved all the issues and the car felt much much quicker as a result.

i would check your coolant temp...do a search how to inlock the hidden menus.
You should be 90 degress after 5 or 6 miles. Mine struggled to get to 80 and now after thr 2 theremostate changes its a steady temp abd mud 40's mpg |

That is too much power. Either the dyno was mis configured or he's applied a map that will nuke your turbo if not your engine.

I had a remap on my 320d 177ps auto ... but didn't like the way it made the gearbox feel - it didn't seem to adapt well at all and banged into gear. It was generally uncomfortable with the extra power. I reverted to standard and ended up buying a 330d LCI.
FWIW though the 320d remapped was def quicker than a std 325d we had at work ! Maybe on a manual it is better. My map was from Superchips - nothing wrong with the way it delivered the power engine wise ... went from a rolling road checked 177 to 215bhp on the day. The experience has put me off the idea of mapping my LCI 330d ... though mapping that would not be as simple as the 320d was. |

S08.. Sounds like it was a shite map. I'd bring it to someone decent like Evolve or BW chiptune, DMS etc. (Or Simon for that matter).

I've actually gone with another company now as I would have had to wait quite some time. The guy I'm going with has quoted similar performance and lives local so I'll let you know how it goes His map takes it up to 212bhp and 405 torque. |

It was Superchips - done at their HQ and rolling roaded before and after. I have had a number of maps from them and always been really impressed ... but I didn't like this one ... maybe it was just me. Another tuner I contacted said the auto box settings need sorting for this car and maybe Superchips map hadn't done that as well ... either way I took the map off and they refunded my money without issue.

Just to let you know guys that I got my remap done today and it really is excellent. Smooth going up through the gears and no more flat spots. Having a bit of difficulty with the start stop not working but they reassured me that that function would start working again once the ECU has relearnt.

I went for the official BMW performance power kit, 197HP/390Nm. Car behaves so much better now, definitely worth it.
My car being an automatic i decided not to go with the aftermarket remaps, hearing about steptronic issues after the remap. The PPK came with a new torque converter.
