Fuel pump compensation release form...

BMWNA is requesting that I sign a release form for the compensation I am receiving for the faulty fuel pump. Has anyone with a bad fuel pump been requested to sign this form? If so, where you also provided a document with the "release matters"?

What compensation are you receiving on top of a new pump that requires a release?

If they are asking you to sign a release to get just a replacement pump I'd say no. The warranty should cover the pump as a defective part. No release needed unless BMW is CYA because they knowingly did something wrong in relation to the pumps being in cars. If thats the case I would definitely not sign the release.

Got clarification from BMWNA; I guess its a confidentiality release form, pretty much agreeing to not disclosing what exactly i was compensated.

Yep. That's why 'mum's the word' from Mr. Lazlo. For all your troubles, I hope they are doing right by you. But don't risk a problem by posting it here.

Just PM everyone.

Here's what I can say:

yes, the release was a gag.

I was treated fairly by BMWNA.

BMW has people crawling all over this forum. They are called "Online Analysts". They knew all about my situation before I sent the first email to BMW DE.

Well I guess that's why it's always good to have user names (for those of us that do).

Shady shady stuff BMW. They know if you mention what you got everyone with a faulty fuel pump will want the same thing. But what they gave you was fair right? I mean per your words? So the only reason they WOULDN'T want you to post what they did for you is if they planned on treating someone UNFAIRLY.

That's crap...thumbs down BMW. I don't even have a failed fuel pump and this kind of behavior is enough to make me look elsewhere for my next vehicle.

How much risk is it when 99% of the posters on this site use fake names. Heck, you can even make up an e-mail address to validate a new fake account. I don't see how BMW can track this. What are they gonna do, take you to court? That's risking even greater publicity that they are still knowling selling defective cars.

Everyone's situation is different and a confidentiality agreement is fairly standard in this type of problem. It's not a question of fairness, just a standard corporate practice. Nothing unique to BMW, that's for sure.

Argh...

Dropped the car off at the dealer today due to "Engine Malfunction, Reduced Power" which was preceded by two months of worsening long cranks on start.

Please PM me with what you got. I have a lease, so lease payments seem only fair if I'm not driving a car equal to what I'm paying for. (I'm in a 325 instead of me 335).

So what exactly would be the reason for the confidentiality then, since the 'everybody does it' excuse doesn't really fly with me.

you work for BMW right?

It's called integrity. When a person agrees to hold something in confidence and abides by that agreement. This would also apply to a verbal agreement or handshake.

It's a character thing, and all too rare today.
