Laptorr Exhaust, AA headers, 3SIM Sound Clips

Good afternoon, fellow N/A enthusiasts.

I felt like sharing my N52 'build' with some people who may appreciate it. It put down 242whp/229wtq on the Dyno in current spec with the following mods:

Active Autowerke catless headers
3 stage intake manifold
BPC header/3SIM tune
Laptorr header back exhaust
Turner Motorsport intake

It's pretty loud with headers and no cats at WOT, with a lot of rasp between 2k and 2.3k RPMs so I may try to address that with a different resonator. Overall I'm really pleased with it.

Same opinion...probably going with a Magnaflow instead.

Man, that's loud. To be honest, I've never been a fan of the sound of any BMW straight six. They all just sound raspy.

But the power numbers are impressive!

Do you have any clips of just the laptorr on without any other exhaust changes?

The Japanese exchange rates are different now than they were in older discussion threads, so it's just over Eisenmann and Supersprint full exhaust price range now.

My favorite part about it that makes it different from others I've heard is the high pitched revs. I'm glad you like it!

It's definitely loud at WOT, but it's surprisingly comfortable at highway speeds and at half throttle. It's not for everybody! Personally the N/A Inline 6 is one of my favorite motors, especially in vintage Skylines and Datsuns.

Hopefully we'll be able to find even more power in this motor

Sadly I don't! I installed the headers and exhaust at the same time. I have a feeling that it works best with the stock exhaust manifold, because the muffler and resonator definitely aren't enough to keep the headers quiet!

I love the fact that it doesn't seem to drone on cruising speed even without the resonator. Good choice.

So what hp/tq figure does this setup achieve? Just curious as I've pretty much congruent setup except for the exhaust, and I still refuse to have it any louder than it is with just the catless headers on the car. Still lurking around to see what exhaust may work for me and what estimated figures are out there.

The intake sounds really good. As far as the install goes it's super simple. There are two bolts on the subframe that screw into the bottom of the intake's metal housing. One of the bolts (on my car at least) was already being used to hold a hose bracket. You'll just have to undo that and set it aside.

As long as you keep your resonator or at least one set of cats there is little to no rasp I have AA headers with muffler delete (kept secondary cats and resonator) and I have no problem with raspiness

Hmm... Now I'm thinking... one of my only remaining gripes with my car is that it's a little too quiet. I've already done the charcoal filter delete, intake resonator delete and K&N filter in the hopes of getting some induction noise, but it would be nice to get a little more volume down low so I can tell where my revs are when driving aggressively. Does anyone do a reasonably inexpensive axle-back/ muffler replacement that isn't too loud?

Every muffler replacement you can find will be 300+ but I suggest getting a local muffler shop to do a muffler delete it will be 80-100 dollars for single exit and I did that, had no problem with raspiness and it was not to loud at all. I will say once you get rid of your stock muffler and run headers you will definitely be turning heads as the car gets some real volume to it. Not raspy or too much drone but loud for sure. Also with a muffler delete you will be pleased with some pops and crackles when letting off in third. Pretty cool.

I have the same set up plus an afe intake box but I run the AA gen2 muffler. This is definitely louder through the rev range and more consistent where mine seems to come and go.

Also: I, too, really enjoy the sound of a well tuned straight six

One more thing: that SOUNDS pretty good.
I'm not trying to hijack the thread but I trolled every sound clip I could find before buying my muffler and most sounded pretty dirty. What did you use to record this clip?

It's the loudest after a cold start until the motor gets warmed up! The system the way I have it can make a really raspy sound around 2k rpms, but after that it just screams. It's also really cool to feel the power when the DISA flaps open through the rev range!

I actually just recorded it with my old DSLR. It's the entry level Canon Rebel T3, but I've gotten some awesome shots with it. This was my first time recording video with it!
