330ixDrive MY2011 EU specs + diff shortening
Upon extremely positive feelings I am getting from the other car of mine (Z4 e89, just swapped the final diff ratio 4.27->5.00) I happen to have an idea forming in my mind....
But, having read thru x-drive tech. manual, I guess it wouldnīt work.... Any thoughts, opinions, experience? Quote:

You would have to swap both front and rear ratios to make them match. Gas mileage would go to crap tho and with the high torque of the 335 first and probably second gear would be ridiculously short and mostly useless.

Thanks for confirmation of my doubts, I thought the same - both diffs would have to get the same final gear ratio (or better said: ratios which guarantee exactly the same rpm of front and rear wheels).... btw, I drive 330ix, thanks God fan-less engine....
I really do NOT care bout gas mileage... |

Well, looks very likely I am NOT stupid... just got a prelim info direct from ///motorsport that xDrive shortening IS technically feasible (as presumed, both diffs will have to be cut by the same ratio).... they advice 15% off the OEM final gear ratio....
Well, I got something very attractive to ponder over coming months.... |

Confirmed!
Just had (new) shorter diffs (of OEM e9x xDrive AT origin) installed + rear one upgraded with Drexler 40% LSD, ie. shortened the final drive ratio from 3.15 to 3.64 (13.6%) Having driven few virgin miles only, though... but... now that 330i of mine runs somewhere in (stock) 335i territory.... wow, I am literally stunned. Actually it revs 5000 @ 200kmph at sixth gear (MT)

For the mods - see my signature.
Ref oil: been running (recommended) 5w30 thru warranty only, immediately it expired I went for 5w40 and never regretted. Actually been running on Millers Oils CFS (consumes 0.5litre, tops thru oil interval of 15k kms). Ref regular maintenance: at 150k kms replaced water pump+themostat, both fuel pumps, all 6 injectors and coils, clutch, both hardys.... and much more... preventive replacement in all cases at 200k kms replaced downpipes (incl. primary cats), middle exhaust (incl. secondary cats), all lambdas and other sensors incl. Nox, both DISA flaps, hot air mass snsor etc... preventive maintenance, again Everything because od f-cking Bruxelles and its stupid CO2 policies - N/A R6 are gone history .... so I have to care of my daily to keep it running for ever.... so I am planning even a complete drivetrain replacement at 300k kms.... new OEM engine+clutch+gearbox+transfer case will go in....

wow reading you makes me feel i am not the only one spending so much money on NA engine as i can afford easily an 335i but i am in love with NA so babe it In few weeks will replace full suspension Bilstein B6,control arms and toe arms, already did water pump and thermostat in preventive, checked DISA seems to be perfect. Will wait a bit for lambda sensors should be good as i am at 130x km. What makes you change the oil to 5w40 ? Did you burn more then 0.5 on 5w30 ? Thx a lot |

Three reasons for 5w-40 Millers nano EE /CFS:
a) CFS withstands much higher temperatures (lubrication quality guaranteed up to 140deg C, NA R6 are known to be running the temps quite high, while pushed hard - with my other car i observe as much as 125deg C once riding it hard , ie. most of the time close to red-line) b) better lubrication due nanoparticles c) most of (annoying) mechanical noise/hum from the engine are past memories with 5w-40 In average it burns half liter of oil per interval regardless its specs/brand...
