Carly seems to be very popular and is what I've just got. It consists of a Bluetooth dongle that plugs in to the obd port and an app for your phone.
It's extremely easy to use and there is loads you can do - coding, diagnostics, parameter monitoring, service reset, dpf forced regeneration and more. The dongle is around £40-£45 and the app is £43. I got mine a couple of weeks ago and within half an hour I had it set up and had coded a few things. Just Google 'BMW Carly' and you will find everything you need to know. |

I'm waiting on a Carly dongle coming in the post Nick46, after the app did you have to do further in app purchases for extra features? Just feel that the app on iOS is expensive enough and would like to know what additional purchases I'll need to make.

Looks like you have a petrol car, so the only additional in app purchase you may need to make in your lifetime is the battery registration.

I haven't made any in app purchases yet, but I believe that idrive coding is an in app purchase along with what's been mentioned above. I think the in apps are a small one off payment and then you can do it as much as you like. For general coding, diagnostics and parameter monitoring there is no charge.

Another option is a laptop and an obd cable using software such as Inpa and NCSexpert. This can be found free of charge if you know where to look (pretty sure there is a link on the forum to download the software) but is not as safe or easy as using Carly. It is possible to brick your ecu using this method but this is the software that BMW use so gives full control. There are tutorials on the net for how to use this and you can read/delete error codes plus code changes to different modules.
