Unhappy E92 headlight issues

hey all, first time posting so excuse any errors. i have a 2008 328i coupe, base package, and have been having trouble with my passenger HID. i took it to a mechanic and he replaced the bulbs and the ballast and it still wont light up. he thinks its bad wiring inside the housing and he suggested getting a brand new housing but theyre 2k each! im wondering if its maybe cheaper and easier to purchase aftermarket units or is there a good electrician someone knows in the chicago area i can take the car too and having them look at the headlights.. thanks in advanced!
