N55 Turbo upgrade intro price and list for batch 1 pre-orders

Hey guys,

Ok so we are getting close to being ready to begin testing on this and I am getting a LOT of interest. A company from the middle east called me and wanted to buy 5 of them on the spot sight unseen. This tells me it is time to start taking pre-orders so I can get a list together as I am only able to do about 10 of these on the first run due to the cost and availability of cores. The intro price for these is going to $3499, for this you get a genuine Garrett Dual Ball bearing CHRA with a custom reverse rotation GTX compressor wheel, custom reverse rotation Garrett turbine wheel, and all the needed lines to convert it over. The turbine and compressor housings are staying the same so all those connections will be plug and play. There of course are other supporting mods needed, as well as a tune. We will be working with PTF as well as Terry on the initial tune as the Cobb N55 software should be ready by the time we are, and BT will have the capabilities to tune these as well. I just had a customer email me and ask if it will compatible with the Procede, that is yet to be seen, but I do not see what Shiv cant tune for these. I will take a total of 5 intro price orders this batch and I will be requiring a 50% deposit to reserve your spot( if the interest is very high, I may add more intro price spots). Spots will be reserved in order of deposit taken and will be shipped in the same order. If interested please email me directly at Tony@vargasturbo.com and we can get everything set up. As always thanks everyone for the support.

Good stuff- maybe this will put some pressure on Dinan to get cracking on their turbo upgrade.

Yes more info please. 3499 intro price for 1 turbo and a few lines seems steep unless these numbers are very impressive.

I think what a lot of people do not understand is the complexity of this upgrade. If the turbo was a normal rotation the price would be under 3 grand. We start with a Garrett CHRA which costs almost $1500 alone, we then take the normal rotation wheels that come with it and basically throw them away and have custom reverse rotation wheels made to fit the CHRA. Then the compressor housing, Garrett CHRA, and turbine housing have to go through extensive machining to accept this new CHRA. The price margin on this upgrade even at this price is much lower then the N54 upgrades. So lets break this down. For the N54 you get a 500 WHP capable upgrade with 2 journal bearing turbos with cast compressor wheels using parts that are much easier to get as they are normal rotation turbos, and the price is not much less adding in options. This is a state of the art Garrett GTX ball bearing turbo fitted to the stock housings that is capable of 500 WHP while still retaining your warranty as detecting any difference will take a very keen eye. If you people want to wait for a cheaper option to come on the market I think they will be waiting a very long time, but that is an option as well. As we ramp into more of a production run, the price very well may come down. But doing small runs of 5-10 units this is just what it costs. The N55 needs help but the market is not near as big as the N54 hence why no one has stepped up to this yet.

If you come here to bitch about the price, punch yourself in the face instead. Go price a twin power turbocharger for an N55 from the dealership. Half of you douchebags that will complain about the price probably have stupid $3000 wheels.

You gotta pay to play. Go find another upgraded N55 direct bolt-on solution. You can wait for Dinan's upgrade but that won't be any cheaper.

So we'd be looking at:

VTT turbo: $3500
FMIC: $1500
Downpipe: $500
Exhaust: $1500
Tune: $1000?
LSD:$2000
Chargepipe:$400
Labor: 30 hours? $3000?

A little over $13,000... Not too bad really considering what one of these should be capable of.

Turbos in the X-drive should be identical to the RWD models. We have never had one apart so I cannot 100% confirm this. But changing turbos for different models I feel would have been way too costly for BMW. So the odds are in your favor.

It's true man- you really have to understand the capabilities here, and the complexity involved, trying to balance the newfound power while keeping the entire system at an even keel.

Price is all subjective.

Oh absolutely not- but at least if something goes south I can get something at the dealer besides the finger. I doubt a shop foreman with a trained eye can't tell what happened if something goes with the turbo, but this is all exciting stuff- definitely an exciting time for us slow single snail folks! Major props to Vargas for pushing the envelope for N55- and raising the bar.

Jeez, I knew someone would pop in here and start picking apart the estimated pricing.

Enjoy your $130 intercooler, I'm sure it is well made.

I love how this thread turned from a thread about a turbo upgrade to a thread about some dude's front mounted ghetto cooler

Let's not let this thread get derailed by a $130 intercooler...

Back to the topic at hand. Tony, does that price point include some sort of refunded core charge? In other words, are we getting a rebuilt twin scroll or do you need the customer to send in their factory turbo once the swap is complete? Just wondering...

If not, maybe provide that option to customers looking to save a bit of dough. It would make sourcing cores easier for you as well.
