They sound like fools. "Hey look Bob, those black things at the edges of the cars, those are T I R E S, say it with me, tires. Very similar to what you used on your Camry to drive to work today"

If an NFL announcer used the first 5 minutes of every game to explain what a touchdown was, and what the ball looks like, you'd have TV viewers changing to another channel or hitting mute.
Actually, I recall Martin Brundle did occasionally (not as often and annoying as SpeedTV) explain to casual viewers about tyre (yes, use British tyre instead) regulations, DRS, and KERS. But very briefly and very tolerable.

But during pre-race show and most of the time in the race, they provide more in-depth views, analysis, and explanation. Like the F1 tyres aren't actually rubber, they are synthetic material to provide grip.

How many times will the speed announcers say "And there goes Micheal Superhuman. 7 time world champ, in the yellow helmet"

So goddamn annoying

The only thing i dont like about the BBC broadcast is that they favor the British drivers and McLaren SSSSOOOOO much.

i do agree with OP. the racing and football announcers are much more entertaining than the American sports announcers.

now, whether it's worth the TV licenses is another question. over here in the colonies we can still get some TV for free

The TV licence is worth it for the fact that there are no commercials.

When I've been to the States I couldn't believe HOW many commercial breaks there are on TV - it's like every 5 mins! TIVO however is the best invention ever (well maybe after the wheel and the internal combustion engine!) so recording stuff and skipping the ads makes things better

Back to F1 - it's a shame that the BBC will only have half the covereage since they sold out to Big Bernie and Sky

Some good news, if we could try to find a bright side.

Sky Sports has launched a bespoke F1 channel. Where you can pick and choose to watch on-board footage, the pit lane, or any number of sources.

Just too bad we can't get it in the US. Or is it?

Here in Canada, we are forced to watch a copy of the BBC program for live broadcasts, but will also get the replays on SPEED.

My personal opinion is that Brundle and coulthard are dry, boring and VERY monotone. I know the SPEED broadcast can be a bit cheesy, I actually find that I learn more by watching SPEED.

IMO, the US team gives plenty of feedback on actual facts...who is signing what contract, what $$ value, where the teams are for development, etc. I don't get the same depth of information from the BBC.

Oh, wait, I do get a long and constantly updated list of drivers from driver, from driver, etc... This is rather boring and is one of the reasons I refuse to watch BBC.

I hope Sky can find a frontman as good as Jake Humphrey.

He was very good at what he did, imo.
