2011 335d shifter indicator shows park, dash display shows neutral, cranks no start

Hi guys, Looking for help on this. 2011 335d shifter indicator shows park, dash display shows neutral, cranks no start. Throws a no communication with the computer code. Hoping somebody has seen this before. I'm planning on putting the car up on the lift to check to make sure the cable didn't come off the selector level, or wasn't put back on by previous persons unknown. I've done the red button shifter lock release to get the shifter out of park, and I reset the shifter back into park. But it didn't help. The no communication with the computer worries me the most. Any help would be appreciated, and if I've missed a thread that already exist, my apologies in advance.

What's the actual fault code(s)?

Pull the shift boot and see if the wires are severed. Common problem (usually results in the car not shifting into Sport or Manual mode)

I'll be away for a couple days. I don't recall seeing cut wires under the shifter indicator cover. But I'll look more closely. I'll post the code when I get back, the car is in another city. Thanks for the interest and help.

the wires are a bit hidden in some sort of cloth-tape stuff. mine didn’t trigger a fault code when the wires were broke, but mine wouldn’t want into sports mode anymore.

Partly solved. Shifter console showing park while dash showing neutral problem solved. Put car up on lift, the "push on female connector" on the shifter cable was off the transmission's selector lever's male (ball) fitting. Popped the shifter cable connector onto the transmission level, and the shifter console and dash are now showing same transmission position. Still figuring out the u0100 code. Did some ohm meter work today, and had no power to the wire that I think powers the relay that powers up the computer. I'll start a separate thread as my focus is on getting power to the computer based on my assumption that the computer is not telling the injectors to spray the diesel into the cylinders. Tambohamilton, lnxguy, vester86, thank you for your help much appreciated.
