Winter setup help

Hi, I'm after some advice.

I've just bought my e93 that has 17" alloys with 225/45/17 tyres on them. I want to take the tyres off and fit winter tyres, and then buy a set of 19s for the summer months.

Question is, what sizes could I get away with for the 17's? Want to get away with the cheapest tyre size poss!

225 45 17s are very common, so therefore good value. I have a set of four Vredestein Wintrac Extremes which are very highly regarded (currently mounted on Volvo alloys), only done a few thousand miles if you are interested, make me an offer! I'm a couple of hours from Derby.
