warrenty's up, in need of service.

so my warrenty was up about 2k miles ago. and my service light turned on about 160 miles ago. brought it into bmw of bellevue today to get a quote on about how much it'd be to get serviced, and he told me $650 (including tax). he also said that i needed an oil change, some filter changed, and new spark plugs. but when i got home i checked my service records n i had just gotten an oil change about 200 miles before my warrenty was up. so that doesn't really make any sense. but bottom line, suggestions on places to go to get serviced for a relatively cheaper price??? being a broke college student sucksss

You could ask some of the local guys if they could help out. Or, try going to one of the independent BMW shops. They're usually cheaper than the dealerships.

what other thing the $650 includes besides oil change, filter and spark plug?

you can just buy those part online and get any shop to change them all. labor shouldn't be higher than 100

go to autozone and let them read the code to see whats wrong. and never trust dealership

I would help you with your service light to see what the problem is (I have a Peake Scan Tool) but your too far north! Search the local area for someone with a Peake or Bav Tech that could help you out. I'm headed from Texas to the Ft Lewis area soon and I would help you out but like I said, your too far away.

Oil change at a regular Jiffy Lube type place should cost you ~$80

Spark plugs are kind of dependent on your mileage (not sure of the cost, but relatively cheap). I'd say if you're under 100k you should be ok.

Does anyone know how you can check for what service you need? The SA scanned my key and said I needed spark plugs and oil change. Oil change is as easy as can be. I used mobil-1 0-40 and oem filter. But how would I know if I need spark plug change? Car navi doesnt say, I have BT cable but I dont think it mention anything either. I'm changing them regardless cuz of my mods, and it looks pretty straight-forward. Oh and its "warranty" not that it matters but just saying lol

Princess. You can reach me at 253 579812five

I've got a contact who's been doing my work for my e92. He's a certified BMW tech who works for BMW seattle. Extremely knowledgable and great rates. He's in north Renton, exit 6 off 405. Just shoot me a text and I'll text you his info. He's got his own garage and lift, it's his side business.

I would recommend Broad Stroke Associates, they saved me so much money over what the dealer has quoted me and they seem to know more then the dealer too atleast in my case.

princess, since you're in Kirkland, you should go to see Rick at Signature BMW. He's right next to the Google offices and is GREAT! Phone: 425-629-3325

http://www.signatureindependent.com/contact.html

I've sat in the waiting area while my girl's car got sorted and I've seen them do code reads on the fly without charging people. I think he quoted me under $100 for an oil change, including BMW oil and labor.

Tell him that Christopher with the silver M Coupe and British Columbia plates sent ya! ;-)

I'm surprised nobody else has mentioned him on these posts before. I've taken my girl's '00 M Coupe in there a few times and he's been excellent every time!

*cringe* I think you just made half the female tuner/enthusiast population cry with that comment. Lol the rewards of DIY are undeniable, you can definitely learn quickly if you want to.

Don't go to bellevue for service, even if its a lil further, Seattle is worth it for the quality, courtesy and respect. ( assuming you take the dealership route)
