I heard the McCulloch bulbs are not so good quaility and are dimmer than the same k rating bulbs of other brands such as Osram.

What is your personal experience ??
cause the pictures are nice but the live thing is always different.

yes you do lose some output, but not all too much. Looks nice though!

Just did this on my e90 335i sedan.

Tried through the hood but it is basically impossible due to the lack of space that makes it so you cannot open the lamp cover. You can do it without taking the wheel off but the lack of space is slightly annoying. Just turn the wheel to whatever side you want to work on.

In the e90, the cover had no screws, just clips. It's easiest to unclip the bottom first, starting with the clip that is unlike the 4 other ones. I found that it was easiest with a flat head screw driver as well. Just stick it in and give it a push being careful not to break the plastic. For the 3 other clips, to get them loose, insert the screw driver all the way into the slot between the clip and cover and if you are doing the bottom clip, push up(top clips push down), to release the clip.

Do not use the screw driver inside the headlight assembly. You can unclip the metal clip on top of the bulb by maneuvering yours fingers to it, then pushing it back and to the outside of whichever side of the car you are at.

When you are done replacing the bulbs and have resecured the metal clip on the hooks that it was previously on, you can replace the assembly cover by starting with the clip on the top(hook them both on first), then pushing it onto the clips on the bottom, ending with the clip that you started with. It will take some force to push it back on so dont be scared if you are pushing but its not clicking.

great write up, thanks

a couple of suggestions.

make double sure you put the covers back on dead square, and dead tight.

on my nearside cover, i put it in place, and screwed it back in, but obviously missed a bit of seal or something, as this headlight misted slightly.

secondly, i have a set of 8000k bulbs - they are a fantastic blue, but light output is nowhere near as good as OEM - still very bright, but i'm not overly happy with it. i may change to 6000k.

8000K is way to blue for me.. they blend into the dark pavement.... and not illuminate the road well..

I want to change both my headlights and my angel eyes. If I get mtec 6000k like list in this thread which bulb should I get for the angel eyes to have a match as close as possible. I think I remember reading somewhere that the angel eyes are H8? thanks.

This is the best DIY!!!! I did it myself with the tire on... There is absolutely NO NEED to take off the tire unless u need MORE than enough room to unscrew things.... I just turned the tire out and everything was a breeze from there..... just dont do it in 2am sun with no shade like I did... LOL

Can you not change the xenons from the engine bay like the angels? Do you really need to jack the car up?

There's really no room to access the lights from the engine bay but you don't need to jack the car up. Just turn the wheel all the way to one side and you should have plenty of clearance to access the bulbs.

Thanks for the write up. Replaced my left bulb last night. Of course once I got to the housing, looking thru my tool box I didnt have a t20 screw head. Had to make a last min run to home depot. Overall this def DIY helped.
