Alignment Question

Why is it important to go to a BMW or Indy shop to get alignment done on the car, I mean what is better there than going to lets say somewhere like Sears? I hit a curb yesterday and the cars alignment has gotten real bad now and I have to get it done like today

there is a special way to align a car. you should always get an alignment with a completely full or empty tank of fuel. when the car is being aligned, weights should be placed in the car to compensate for driver weight.

some high school dropouts dont know how to do this, which is why it is important to take your car to a reputable shop for an alignment. you get what you pay for.

well lucky for me I just got gas yesterday! woohoo

but if the numbers on paper look good after the alignment is done, than it would mean the alignment would be in spec, correct?

depends on your definition of "look good"

if i were you, i would save myself the hassle and take it to a place that can do it properly.

You should give the shop that you choose to have your car aligned at to see how much experience they’ve had with aligning BMW’s. But if you have confidence that someone at Sears may or may not know what they’re doing then by all means take that chance and have them do it. But in the end the statement you get what you pay for goes a long way. Good luck.

The BMW alignment range specs are based on the car being weighted down. If you align to these specs without the weighting procedure it won't really be in spec. I have heard there are newer machines that can compensate without weight but I dunno. If your car is so out that you notice it after hitting a curb you may well have bent a wheel or control arm as well. It's best to take it to a shop that knows bmws on the chance that you need to replace bent parts.

Listen to the Ron White piece on his van and tell me you ever want to go to sears auto again...

Its worth the wait to get to a good alignment shop, without a doubt.
