will the radioshack connectors cut the oem cables apart when i take the dei shock out?

i took my car back for service. and they put the module in there so my panic works now!

No ti shouldn't cut the cables apart as long as you're careful removing them. Personally, I'd forget about the radioshack connectors. I installed this on SES_D's car w/o them and it saved space and were more secure.

Very informative DIY. This is a great idea... wish it was available back when I had my E46 with an oem alarm. Nice work!

shock sensor

great DIY. Does the shock sensor turn off if you turn the ultrasonic module off when you arm the car?

I got my shock sensor installed. I believe I got it adjusted on the too sensitive side. The alarm is triggered even with the noise of a C-5 Galaxy passing by or the Levante wind blowing. What settings did you guys have your alarm on? Also I did not put a diode since it is optional. Is this right?

Also I observed some weird behavior that I could not turn off the alarm even when the vehicle was moving. Weird stuff.

Yeah, you probably have your shock sensor too high. I've kinda gotten tot he point where I think the shock sensor is only really good for hit and run scenarios, because the settings don't adapt to your environment. The shock sensor would be great if you park only in garages or off mai roads, but if you park somewhere where a lot of cars will come by you'll get false alarms. That or you have to adjust your shock sensor to the point where it won't pick up any tampering you'd want it to.

Anyways, with the on/off setup i just leave it off most of the time.

What do you mean about not being able to turn off your alarm - elaborate.

I finally figured it out. I have it too high. Well, that incident where the alarm would intermittently come on and off happened when I triggered the alarm and then entered the vehicle. Its a no no. Make sure that the alarm has been turned off completely before entering the vehicle. It thinks that it has been stolen. My wife freaked out.

hahaha, yeah it's a beezy when the alarm doesn't turn off =)

it's especially bad if u're testing in the garage and the siren just resonates in your ear drums.
