USB stick on the way, I'm planning on trying with a late 09 build (no software update option in menu), 2010 MY E90 LCI. Will order FSC code after I can get USB stick to be recognized in car. I'll keep everyone here posted!

Who knew that getting an iDrive firmware update would prove to be so
difficult..? Dealers in my area are not interested in doing this for me unless
"something is wrong with the system which they would diagnose before
running the update" ~ I guess business is too good!

Add another successful update to the list. Sergej is awesome... Super quick. Also thanks to those that were seeding, still took almost 3 days to download though!

Good luck man!! I'm still poking around and re-evaluating how I pose the
question to the dealer...Perhaps I said too much..LOL

They're telling me I can get the 2013 maps and firmware update for $375ish
plus taxes (ouch). That may be my last resort.

that sucks. i may just not deal with the update if thats the case. but $375 should get you the firmware update too then so next year you can do it yourself via usb.

Did you tell them you wanted to update your maps? Im going in playing dumb that my usb doesnt work and when i slow down and almost come to a stop and then accelerate again, the car like jolts. i think that issue was fixed with a firmware update. We'll see. Ill update on friday!

The heated steering wheel malfunction... does it come on and then shut off something like 10 seconds later? then if you shut the car off and restart, it usually works unless it's really cold out? There was a TSB on that and in fact I just posted to that thread a few minutes ago. I *think* I fixed mine but haven't had a cold day all week (just put the new module in on Saturday.) It's the module in the steering wheel, not a firmware thing.

For those of you having potential problems with your firmware, try looking here:

http://www.bmw.com/update

have your vin number (last 7 digits) ready. Its really for bluetooth/phone/audio/usb device updates

I cannot say whether or not any pertinent updates are available that would help for this, but Im sure its worth a look.

No, that's the problem, literally 6K out...I'm still waiting to hear back from a
couple of dealers, if that doesn't work out, I will see if I can get this done
through an independent.

That is where you enter the FSC code.

How much is that dude charging for the FSC code? My dealer said they'd get it for me, but it was pretty expensive.

Try emailing him and he will tell you. It is pretty cheap though.

Correct; since I have no idea on what basis he determines the pricing I'm disinclined to say what he charges - especially since his response time via email is usually very good.

You won't see a better price for the FSC code as far as I know.

Red herring I believe. The download you'd get from that is for updates to bluetooth phone functionality and isn't really related to the more systematic update that allows NAV update via USB.

Well I can see their reluctance to do it as 'goodwill' since it's all labor and it does take a long time. My car had to stay overnight when it got the firmware updated since it was a several hour ordeal. Not sure if independents can do it or not. Might be worth taking the hit this time on price just to get the feature so future updates can be DIY for much cheaper. Now if you don't plan on hanging onto the car then I'd just forget the whole thing.

I didn't ask for goodwill under warranty...I'm willing to pay for the update.

I heard back from a dealer, and going to book there. They're charging me 2 hours. It's true that biting the bullet now will allow for easier and less expensive updates in the future.

Thanks for hearing me whine guys..
