30FF Fault Code

Just bought an E90 335i recently and am new to the BMW scene (comin from audi) and the N54 engine.

Car is bone stock.
I'm getting the 30FF code with low turbo pressure and have done some searching on possible causes..

Car has a loud rattle for about the first 30 seconds on start up that subdues eventually. Once driving, as soon as I give it some power the engine malfunction light hits and I get no power output from my turbos.

So far I've come up with the waste gate actuator arm (could be the cause of the loud rattle), and checking both the hot and cool sides of compression for any leaks. Any other advice would be great.

Found this DIY here and will be following it this upcoming weekend..

Not that it's related but I also have an ambient temp sensor code (the sensor is missing) but I doubt the problems are correlated in any manner.

Any input on which connections to check first and how to approach the problem are greatly appreciated, thank you.

Welcome to the BMW world

30FF can be caused by boost leaks, or boost control.

when are you getting the code?

post a video of the rattle so we make sure it is wastegate rattle.

I'm curious. didn't you notice that rattle when you bought the car?

Figured somebody would ask. I didn't buy it from someone. It's an auction car, but luckily a non-branded title.

I will post a video after work. Thanks marc

Probably some lines are leaking.

most likely vacuum line leak. Swap them all out and go from there.

How many miles on the car. If excess of 50K it could just be the Vacuum Lines.
Otherwise you need to check intercooler connections, charge pipe connections and as you mentioned hot and cold side of charge pipe.

Could be a leaky diverter valve.

Could be wastegates sticking.

car has 40k on it..

it was hit in the driver side fender and the bumper was toast so it could've loosened up some intercooler connections. First thing im checking along with the vacuum lines.

I got a 30ff and it was due to the vacuum lines, car only has 28k miles so definitely something to look into, got another 30ff down the road and it was the diverter valve here's a link to the same lines I had to replace, cost less than 5$ and took about 10 minutes
