A/C not nearly as cold as my Japanese cars!

2011 335is. I live in Phoenix and when it's above 100 degrees the A/C doesn't get even close to being as cold as my wifes '11 G37 or our '99 Lexus ES300. The G37 will get freezing even at 110 degrees and only a few miles of driving and that's with a black leather interior. Then I'll throw it up to about 78 degrees. My335is has Oyster (almost white) interior and I have to have it blasting on Max A/C and even after a 10 mile commute it's not as cold as I would like it.

Is this a German vs. Japanese car thing or should I bring the can into the dealer? It's been the same since I bought it new last year.

My AC sucks.. always has. I've experienced more powerful and quieter AC systems in econo cars, e.g. the Toyota Corolla, Ford Focus. etc.

I have the same problem in my '08. A/C works fine on the highway but in city traffic is nearly useless. Especially here on the surface of the sun.

I have the same issue as you with my 2012 335i. Its def not as cold my as my G37 either. I don't think its a German vs Japanese kind of thing because my old Jetta used to blow out ice cold air...could be just a E92 thing?

My jet black 2008 328i with black leatherette felt quite a bit colder than my 2011 328i silver with black leather. Methinks the leather is the big factor here. The AC is great when fast (measures 42 degrees) and mediocre in stop/go (measures low 50s depending on weather).

I think at the stop light, the AC clutch disengages. I was at a long light and noticed the AC air is gotten warmer compared to when Im driving. Put it in neutral and gave it some revs above 1500 and it got cold again.

That might be the case. The Leather in the wifes G37 is smooth and feels very soft. The Napa leather in the BMW is thick and feels like sandpaper almost. My back definetly gets more wet in my car (and I'm not much of a sweater)

What I found is I don't think it's the AC, it's their control system. When I drive out of my garage and it's cool in there, it will blow ice cold regardless of outside temp.

BUT, if I leave the car outside, and it bakes in the sun, then it never wants to cool. It seems that the temp sensor is mounted in the dash (behind the grates below the controls). I'm thinking its getting cooled from the vents inside the dash, so it reports a cooler temp than the car really is, hence the AC sucking.

On my GM truck, the sensor is mounted in the roof liner, above the driver. And a little fan sucks air in there. The AC on that is awesome.

I was thinking off pulling the unit out of the dash, and installing a little fan behind the grate to suck the ambient air in there.

ACs definitely suck in these 3 series. Doesnt really work in Vegas heat either.

I have driven in NYC traffic during high 90 degree days this summer and the a/c was perfectly fine. It is much better than what I expected from readings forums.

I thought it was just my car...glad I'm not the only one. It's hotter when compared to my 350z, and that hellbox was HOT!

Yeah common issue, just not that cold of an A/C. Plus it takes a while for it to actually even get cold. But hey, it's still the ultimate driving machine haha.

And i thought my gf was just bitchy... Im not a big fan of AC, but i do agree that it sucks. Takes a long time to start blowing cold(ish), and even longer to cool the whole car down, especially if it sits out in the sun(black leather feels quite nice against bare skin after such event).

e60 M5 has seat coolers, which is the reason i almost bought it... still glad i didnt
