Yes, for the mustache part. They were just spinning but after lifting up on the "mustache" and getting some pressure on the threads the screw finally started coming out.

Do you paint your black grill black along with the chrome trim? Seems like if your grills are already black just leave um and paint other parts? Please advise! Thank you!

Up to you... I personally took my grill completely out and unscrewed the chrome top piece. I kept chrome on actual grill and plastidiped as one piece.

Im not new to doing things like this. I do suggest a T25 though instead of a T20 torx...T20 seemed a little small...all my screws came out with ease. I wish they made the sections on the bumper where it clips into a little thicker...those tend to get all bent up or break some...but nothing some gorilla glue cant fix...still holds fine...here are mine:

Did this mod today, very helpful DIY guide. Didn't use primer and only used 220 and 400 grit. I also had the screws that kept unscrewing but all you have todo is pull the grill off the hood. I had 2 screws on the left top grille and one on the right side. I did break the middle latch from the left slats section but everything was good money and came out perfectly.

I ended up using Krylon's Superbond Paint + Primer in satin finish. Finish came out great but noticed that it scratches/indents very easily - I think it may have been from too many coats from all the times I had to redo them due to lint or a chip.
I think I may need to sand them down again almost to the metal and try to apply 1-2 light coats to keep it as thin as possible. Has anyone else had this issue with satin or matte paint? Any suggestions?

Looks pretty easy
Thanks for the DIY. Didn't realise that you can simply pull the grill straight out - good summer project on my black 323i M Sport. Might go with matt or flat black rather than gloss black.

"3 coats of paint" refers to applying 1 coat, followed by drying before applying the second coat and so on right?
I tried painting my finishing rods on the front bumper but it didnt turn out as smooth as I expected..My guess is that some dust setteled on it while it was drying after each coat which lead to a "unfinished" surface Any tips ?
