wheels damaged by tyre firm

took my 230's to have my conti3's put on them, thought id take them to elite in rainham as i know they have all the best equipment for changing 19's with runflats. didnt check them when they were done but just looked over them and found several nicks in the rims which were perfect. gutted really cost me £60 and the rims are damaged. have a set of 313's, where do i take them come tyre change time i certainly dont want them damaged.

as i only saw it after i got home theres little point in telling them as they will only say that could have happened since or they were already like it, would appreciate knowing someone i can trust it must be possible to chage the tyres without damaging the rims. i wonder if some of it is down ro sheer carelessness?

It's worth a go to speak to them imo, they wont want their reputation to slip from a couple of damaged wheels, so i'd imagine they would be willing to rectify the problem in some way!?

Always inspect the wheels before and after with the fitter. Same thing happened to me, but I managed to get them to pay for a refurb.

Were they original new wheels, or had they already been refurbished/touched up?

Its almost impossible to chop oem RFTs without marking a rim thats been 'touched up' IMO.
If its original enamel, then there shuld be no issues.
But a lot of wheels especially via the AUC route have been smart repaired and so are soft.
Had the same thing recently, and couldnt really blame the fitters.
It was clear there were at least three layers of paint on there

I find that if you start off by saying 'look I am really precious about these wheels and they are umarked please be really careful and can you change the tyres without marking the alloys' works well. I use a local firm here and have had several sets changed without any marks, 18" though.

its the 19's with runflats that give them grief all the same it should be possible with a little care to do them without damaging the rims

Yes you are quite right, 'course it should.
That said, Event tyres just did my 230 19 inch rims, changed from RFT's to Conti 5P's and there were no nicks at all. Came to my home, good price - recommended.

The trouble is, every time you now look at them, you'll notice it. Damned annoying.

Mike.
