f30 335i vs f30 328i?

As many of you may know, the performance statistics for a stock f30 328i vs a stock f30 335i are very similar, with the 335i being only .2 seconds faster then the 328i. Also to consider is the fact that the 335i ways over 150 lbs. more then the 328i, which undoubtedly affects the handling. There is also a significant increase in fuel efficiency with the 328i over the 335i. In the 335i's defense, you have two extra cylinders like a BMW is supposed to have, and will likely have better long term reliability (arguable). Plus, the 335i badge looks better on the back of your car. If given the choice today, which would you choose, and why?

i think you already answered your question in your explanation...
Depends on everyone's situation, is this going to be simply a DD commuter, a weekend car or so etc etc

My E90. I find myself wanting to go back to an E46 more than the F series

I will never buy an F series. If I can get a certified pre owned E92 M3 for cheaper than the new F series then why would I "downgrade". I'm just not a fan of the looks of it or the new steering. And screw MPG's if you can pay that much for a new car then you shouldn't worry about a couple hundred dollars difference in gas costs per year

i do love my E90, but if i had to choose between a F30 328 or an F30 335 i would go with the 335 only because of the extra HP and also cause of the dual exhaust setup!

So far, I'm not digging the new F series cars. I would venture a guess that they will grow on me in time, and they'll probably get some revisions each year like the E9x's. There's also not much of an aftermarket performance mods market for them yet. I'm not sure what the true potential of the next gen 335 is, but I guess time will tell.

In my mind, not time to upgrade yet. I love my E92 more than any other vehicle I've owned. It would take a heck of a lot to attract me to another car at this point.

I would expect the next-gen 335 (N55) would have about the same potential as....the last-gen N55 (335).

This is a very tough decision....

On the numbers, the 328 is close, but on the intangibles, the 335 has the edge...sound being a very strong intangible in its favor.

But the rational part of my brain says 328...fast enough, smaller displacement=lower taxes here, better for environment....

But....

Hahahah...I may be getting older...because as I looked at the F30 line-up...I find that I am ever more interested in the GC....just loving the looks of the 6 series GC, and the 3 might just be right up my alley. Though that doesn't absolve me of the engine dilemma!

F30 328i msport all day long. Better gas mileage, same inside and pretty much outside as the 335, and will probably have an aftermarket that will bump it up nicely. 2 cylinders isn't worth that extra money do me.

Same old tired complaints that get trotted out with each new generation.

And as to "six cylinders like a BMW should have", the overwhelming majority of all 3-series BMWs ever made have been 4 cylinder cars. The past 15-20 years of cars sold in the United States does not equal the history of BMW.

Hopefully my next car will be a RWD, manual transmission, F31 320D, if BMW sees fit to sell one to me.

Went through the process prior to getting my E90 last year.

This year, I test drove both F30 models and still liked the 335 for consistent power (passing at highway speeds), and sound of the engine.

I can see the practical value in getting the 328 for some, just not for me personally.

Yes, the majority of three series trough history have had 4 cylinders, but the engine BMW is best known for is its inline 6, which has been offered on every generation of 5, 7, and almost all 3 series.

BTW, RWD and manual transmission are both must, but 320d seems like it is a little bit underpowered, whats the point of a car with superb handling and a tiny engine that you have to horse if you want to have any fun.

Because in many markets, a gallon costs between $8 and $9 and cars are taxed based on hydrocarbon emissions. Unless you are made of money, those factors tend to change your perspective a little.

This might be a small thing, but I sat in a new f30 at the dealer and the seats suck in comfort section compared to my e90. Not to mention everything seems cheaper inside.

As of right now, my N54 335is.

The 435i looks interesting though. Can't wait to see the M-Sport and the M4 (as well as the new M3 sedan).

As with 335 vs 328... I really don't think the performance numbers are as close as you state in the OP.

Honestly I'd just have 335 because of the twin pipe setup out back. So sexy...
