Pushing new shift knob on?

Hey guys, I just received my new shift knob from Tischer today, and the hook cap for my front bumper(YEAH My car has hook cover again).

Anyways, I did what shift knob removal DIY told me to do. Dropped the gear in the 2nd, and pulled it hard, and the stock shift knob came right off after a few tries. Now, here is the problem. Can I push the new knob on the gear rod like I pulled it out of it?

I'm afraid I might break the whole gear area by pushing it in too hard. None of the diys mentions how hard I should push it in. Does anyone know for sure? Btw, the shift knob is a replica of a shift knob from old M5 I believe. I'll take a photo of it installed once I get it fixed on somehow.

you dont need it in second you can keep it in neutrall just dont hit yourself in the face with the knob.. and yeah you can pop the knob back on with no problem. just be careful you dont break the clip that hold the boot.

E46 zhp weighted knob installed.

Grip is tight, falls into each gear like it's a giant hole

PS - Don't mind the dirty boot
