BMW Portable Navigation Part Number Needed
Ok Folks,
I JUST discovered that BMW has released a portable navigation kit for our cars. I am VERY interested in getting just the installation kit so that I can mount my own GPS unit. I already have a Magellan unit. BTW, do we know if the BMW Portable Nav unit is rebranded Garmin or Magellan? Pics for Clicks: EDIT: I just found the part number for the installation kit: 65900445990 It is about $70.xx shipped. Tischer does not have it yet. I am VERY tempted to pull the trigger on this bad boy...

I use Google Maps these days....up to date maps, no extra portable navi to carry around, easy to use and syncs with PC, caches maps if off-line
can get CoPilot for 5 bucks if off-line is needed |

I am vacillating between the Garmin/NUVI mount and the iPhone station mount. Did you ever install the Garmin unit or mount? BMW won't confirm to me that the wiring and coding would work with a more up to date Garmin unit. Did you go with Garmin or Magellan? How has it worked for you? Any installation issues?

I had the bmw navigation pro installed on my 2007 e90 last week and it has worked flawlessly.
I ended up getting the non-ad traffic cable which is based on the NAVTEQ traffic data broadcast over FM. It works well but it is not the 3D Traffic other Garmin units have. The install is super clean, I can post pictures later but it looks exactly like it shows in the rendering pic above. |

i bought the garmin nuvi 3790 for my 08 e92. installed the bmw installation and mounting kit myself. i brought the car to work to program/code for the navi so the sound can come out through speakers(i work for bmw).
after everything is done... no sound comes out through speakers. i found out that the bmw branded nuvi 3790 have a option you can select for vehicle speakers and the garmin branded 3790 dont have that feature. sucks..... i guess i gotta contact garmin to ask if there is a software i can get to convert it for the nuvi itself |

I've just discovered this myself while my car was in for work today. I've researched some and I see that you can make calls via bluetooth on your phone, can anyone tell me if this works with iPhone? Also I am interested how you go about answering, dialling & hanging up a call, is this done via the steering wheel controls or is there a separate remote for this that needs mounting somewhere and activating so that the Nav Plus/Pro recognises you want to speak?

Can you please post one from further away as well as one with the unit removed? The new gamin's mounting clip have gotten much bigger than the earlier days, just wondering what the dash would look like if the unit isn't mounted, does it affect the flow of the dash?
Thanks! |

Look at this
Look at this website for your mount. www.proclip.com. Then go buy yourself a Garmin with lifetime maps and traffic updates. There will be the letters "LMT" on the end. I've had both and definitely like the Garmin for ease of updating the maps and simplicity of use.

Hi,
I am a newbie to BMW. I have the Nuvi 50 (5 inch screen). Do you think this BMW mount would fit mine? The reason I am dying to get this mount is that I want to hide all the cable (have it hotwired inside the dash). I live in Vancouver, do you know, by any chance, which shop can do the installation? Thanks |

Here is a GARMIN nüvi 1450LMT mounted using the BMW kit. Normally I don't like aftermarket options but this one works well. I got power from CAS which is easier to get to than the lighter in the console. Wired in a female lighter adapter. Plugged in the nuvi traffic adapter. And coiled the excess wire/traffic antenna just under the speaker in the center of the dash.
Has anyone found the power source for the accessory position? When I put the key in the slot the radio comes on. Ideally I would like the nuvi and my bluetooth to come on then rather than having to press the Start button. |
