Getting Body Kit Painted...Guidance!
I have been trying to get my M Kit painted and shops are saying that they will not paint unless I bring the car to them with the kit already installed (pre fitment). They said that most shops nowadays will not paint kits due to issues during the process. Does this make sense since it can damage the kit while driving it. I am trying to get my front, rear, and sides painted. Can anyone give any guidance on the process of getting parts painted from their personal experience?

Your shop is probably worried about painting the bumper and then it not fitting. If it's an OEM bumper tell them to paint it. If you arn't using OEM paint give them your gas cap so they can paint match.

yah I have talked to quit a few shops now and they are all charging a little extra for blending. So my cost for all my paint, install and blend is around $2200. Which apparently is a decent price as long as its a good paint job. I guess I really have no choice in pulling the trigger since I've already invested in the kit itself.

Yah I think the market out here for new cars is scarce. Out here shops are all about insurance work only and classic car restorations. No body kits allowed out here lol.

Bulldog adhesion promoter$ 23/qt Primer $15/qt Primer reducer $5qt Color $50/pt or qt ( depends) Color reducer $15/qt Clear $40/qt Clear activator $10/ 1/2pt Total $158 My personal preference is 3 guns. Husky hvlp $75 Or harbor freight $15 one use only then junk em. Lol Good compressor 20 gallon and at least 3.5 HP ( lots of air flow for full vehicle painting projects) $400 Hoses and adapters $25 Total project $743 The first time Cost for paint parts individually at your body shop? 2,000 m3 bumper 2,000 carbon hood 2,000. Carbon trunk 1000 side skirts In reality, if they do pre-paint panels they should be able to match the paint with the car before painting the real car. No blending is needed. Clear coat sometimes is more yellow than clear so it changes the color slightly. I hope the best for you and hope more people start to DIY.

So just let me reiterate that most body shops do a pre-paint panel to color match . It is very much more time and labor intensive to sand every panel to blend. I would gladly take $1900 to spray his parts over 5 times to his liking and pocket $1000. And not only that, once you buy the stuff, you can spray rims instead of plastic dipping. You can retouch up and curb scrapes without paying to redo it. Overall, $1900 is fairly decent considering they will keep you car for a week, sanding, prepping, and painting. Also another reason for not blending panels is some people lease the car.

I am getting more than just front, rear, sides. But you will have to wait to see lol. The price they quoted me is with a lifetime warranty and a guarantee match. If not I do not pay. I don't know to many reputable shops that will paint your car for 750. Maybe those prices are for lower end paint as well. I price quoted PPG and Dupont and came up with around 350 for paint. If there is a shop willing to paint for 750 then they aremore than likely not doing proper steps or just spraying and waiting to get paid without effort. If I wanted that kind of job I could have easily went Maaco or Econo. Plus as mentioned above I do not have tons of time on my hand to do it properly.
