Wrapped my own hood with 3M 180 CV3 Matte Black

After messing up twice (overstretching/ripping at 90% completion and not cutting enough at 95% completion) I finally managed to wrap one part of my car lol. I might just stick with this for now. Enjoy.

Looking very good so far, but it will look alot better once finished. If you have any trouble with the rest of the car I can point you to a guy that can help you out. He wraps/details professionally.

Thanks for the comments guys!

@ Boom: I actually did the trim with gloss black and the process wasn't too bad once you wrapped a hood lol. I removed it and kept the aluminum because it actually matched better with my chrome grills. I should of took pictures but PM me with specific questions.

@ Hyper: Thanks I will let you know if I decide to wrap the rest. Just a heads up, can you PM his pricing for helping you wrap, say, the front bumper and aero lip. I mean it can be also be a mutual thing, if he can help me I can help him on other stuff.

@ the rest who wants to wrap. I bought my material from PUMPD so he can work with you on that. He said it's peel and stick but I messed up twice as it is a bitch to stretch back out and reapply. I recommend using a bottle of distilled water and mixing it with three drops of baby shampoo. Spray it underneath the vinyl and squeegee it out. I recommend using a felt squeegee (MACTAC). And make sure you cut more than enough. For a one man job, I recommend using painters tape to hold one side so you can work on the other. Patience is the key my friends.

PM for any more questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

Thanks for the tips. The company I bought mine from had a how-to video that was real time. They didn't use any soapy water but I've heard that before, just wasnt sure how it worked. We'll see how it goes I guess.

also JUST about to order a roll of gloss black vinyl for my chrome trim from bmwshadowline.com, but very hesitant considering all the "imperfections" others have noted on their DIY jobs. i dunno.

As I read your post, Jean, maybe I should order TWO rolls... Also, since I have no idea what I'm about to try to do, what do you mean spray, then squeegee? As in you spray between the vinyl and the car, then squeegee off the car, but there is some residual soapy water on the sticky side of the vinyl ?

Shieldze, maybe we could attempt at the same time and compare notes? Lemme know and if so I'll place my order. BTW, where'd you order from?

Trial and Error. How much does that stuff cost, and is it sold by the yard?

My errors costed me about 2/3 of the roll (about 400 inches out of 600). You should PM PUMPD for pricing, I paid 400 for mine but that's because I was on backorder.

I ordered gloss black vinyl from bmwshadowline too; I got the bigger one, 4" width leaving room for errors. I got a little over half a roll left because I was able to cut in half and do both sides since some parts of the trims were only 1 inch. I will sell for 15 bucks.

For this one, I didn't use any spray, it was basically pull and stretch technique, stick and squeegee down. It was quite easy. The learning curve is about 15 minutes. After my second trim it got easier.

For the soapy water technique, the concept is for it to not stick so hard to the car until you squeegee down and scrape the soap water from underneath allowing more flexibility. Had I done this way I wouldn't have wasted 2/3 of my roll on trial and error!
