I raised this on detailing world, more for new paint protection but there was lots of suggestions, have a read and see if any helps

I have a saphire black e92. I've used menzerna polishes with my DA and not massively impressed. Will be trying the Megs DA pads and polishes in the spring. AG SRP is ok and CG easy creme (glaze) with CG blacklight is nice. Poorboys blackhole is also good. Zaino is also really nice. Waxes, have tried both dojo juice supernatural and purple haze pro and although they are lovely, I get bad smearing effects....

I tried that when I bought mine - the DA just hasn't got enough power to break the polish down, so it doesn't work properly. I ended up getting some lessons and switching to a rotary, with which the Menzerna polishes do a great job. For a car with ridiculously hard paint, it seems to pick up swirls very easily

Tell me about it. I PW, foam, 2bm, use plush drying towels, everything your meant to and still swirls! I had thought about a rotary but will try the new megs MF system come the spring.

I had very minor holograms after the first couple of washes. I'm convinced it's the drying that does it. I've been thinking about getting a water filter, rinsing until it sheets then letting it air dry as far as possible, then perhaps going over afterwards with a quick detailer.
I've heard a lot of good things about that new MF system. Do let us know how you get on...

I have just bought an 8 year old Fiesta in metallic black for the winter which needs a bit of tender loving care. Have ordered Poorboys Black Hole. Going to start with a claying session as the paintwork is so rough. After that a couple of coats of Poorboys and then some Collinite 476 on top for winter durability. Does that sound enough or have I missed anything?

Maybe go around once with SRP before the blackhole dependant upon the condition after claying?
I'm not sure if foaming helps or not on mine. I've started foaming and rather than rinsing off and then the 2bm, I skip the rinse and make the most of the foam. Once gone around with the mitt and my 2bm, rinse with a PW and then with an open ended hose... P#sees me off that my routine is over an hour of fastidiousness and still p#ssinf swirls!! |

I was watching some bloke last night on one of the shopping channels demoing some waterless cleaning sytem ( greased lightening ? ) that "looked good" but wouldnt use it on my car. I have to say the dirt doesnt lift off any easier with a foam lance. I did put some sealant on my alloys & they just blast clean with the jetwash without needing to use bilberry cleaner so the sealant is paying for itself. It can become an obsession if your not careful & I used to clean my "clean" car & could never see the benefit after but let it get dirty and clean it then it looks amazing all of a sudden. They only thing that satisfied me with the stonechip problem was a front end respray as some polishes just dry bright white in the chips & they look like headlights on full beam to me where as the mrs doesnt see it untill I point it out then she show's me a few more. If only there was a black polish that dried black in those stonechips... I have to say though the respray was a great option in the end & now I feel a lot happier about the car & if I cant see a swirl I find my self adjusting position until I can see one. |

Lol, mine is parked under a streetlight and putting the bibs out earlier had me looking at the car in different angles to see the feckin swirls....
However it was beading lovely this morning which is always a pleasing sight... I've found the planet polish wheel shine and seal great on the alloys. Just a PW and a quick shampoo then dried off with a spritz of V7 or Z8 if feeling decadent! Also did my glass with a couple of coats of G3 which I'm quite impressed with.... Stone chips, as a temp solution I've used a black chipstick (comes with one of turtle wax coloured polishes at halfords) to fill and then wax over to top. It don't last that long, but a cheap and cheerful fix! |

PB black hole is great for black cars as long as you use a sealant as it won't last many washes without, I have used CG blacklight and found it dusted up terrible so will stick to black hole and use CG hybrid V7 sealant, bit of luck my last car was black as have a holdall full of cleaning gear. I use a black marker pen for stone chips then sealant over, just takes your eye away from them and no blobs of paint everywhere

Poorboys blackhole followed by collinite 915.
Tried 6 or 7 different combinations as I've had 3 black cars and this is by far the best finish, imho. If you're minted then swissvax is a touch above anything else, but for us living in realityland I find PB/915 to be superb combination.

Nobody use good old AG SRP / HD Wax? That always made my Avus Blue look the tits!

Had my car sealed and detailed recently by bespoke car care in shrewsbury (write up to follow soon!) and he recommended built hambers hydra wax, very easy to apply, great shine and good for not introducing swirls
