Custom headlight work.. pre-lci vs lci e92

EDIT: Anyone on the forums know a person (not a vendor) that works on e92 LCI (perma-sealed) headlights?
Pass me the contact info. If he does a good job I can pay a referral fee. Vendors charge up the rear.

I have a friend who does custom headlight work. (baking, priming, black out).
He has done pre-lci e90. He tells me the e92 LCI will be different. The headlight won't be as "easy" to work on. He is unsure if you can bake it, open it, then do the normal procedure for black out without harming the unit.

Any ideas? Those of you who have done it before, please chime in.

I think you have it mixed up, the e92 lights are the easy ones to work on and the e90 lights are more difficult. Send me his info if he'll work on e90 lights.

The E92 headlights are easy to work on. you dont really even need to bake them to open them up

To echo what a few other posters have said:
The E90/91 Pre-LCI & LCI Halogen/Xenon headlights are difficult to work on (they're permasealed)

The Pre-LCI E92/93 headlights are easy to work on (use a heat-sensitive butyl that makes it as easy to open as baking some cookies.

Now, the E92/93 LCI lights are interesting...I haven't heard much about them (because not that many people are opening them up just yet!), BUT what I have heard is that they're permasealed. Which means that opening them is going to be a PITA.

Lightwerkz does it REALLY well though, they've figured out some voodoo magic to do it without damaging the headlights.

It looks to me e92 LCI is perma-sealed. Cutting is required and baking will not work..

Glue. Most vendors will use special sealant.

Not many shops work on perma-sealed ones either....

If only there were more options. I only know of Bavarian X, Lightwerkz, and maybe 180.

Lightwerkz charges up the rear.
Bavarian does not do custom colors (only black outs)
And 180 hesitates..

I'm going to get my 08 e92 headlights installed the rings. The do blackouts too if I'm not mistaken. If you are interested I can let you know the outcome. But it won't happen for another month.

your car is a pre-lci his is an lci, totally different units

Turns out I found a place locally that does work.
Look legit and they are offering me some good rates.

Well congratulations on scoring that one! Keep us updated!

Just make sure that your headlights aren't their guinea-pigs for perma-sealed headlights. Otherwise, you're both gonna have a real bad time.

Apparently, our headlights have the WORST perma-seal in the business. Ex. most new GMC trucks have it, but if you're patient, you can heat and slowly work Popsicle sticks/knives/pointy objects into it, and then scrape it out when it cools. No such luck for us
