Clutch Delay Valve Removal
Anyone here running a 328i 6MT that has done the CDV removal. I am pretty handy but need to know if it is something I can do in the driveway or want to take down to the race shop on the weekend for.
I am having issues doing heel and toe with good results in my car. Never had the issue in the E36 M3 I used to drive. |

330i here with cdv removed. Had a shop do it because i had no idea but seemed simple enough, tech used a vice grip to clamp the clutch fluid line, removed the valve, hooked it back up, no need to bleed. Been 3 months, so far so good.

From what I hear, its pretty easy if you have the tools to lift the carup and go under it. I don't have any of the correct tools needed so I'm going to ltbmw to do it hopefully or borrow a muffler shop's lift for 30 minutes. It seems easy enough if you're good with tools and know what you are doing?

I want to say there is a DIY on this. You should be able to reach it from the top on the engine bay if i remember correctly.

It's pretty easy to do yourself, if you're handy with your tools. Don't really notice much difference on the e90 though. e36 and e46 were much different with CDV removed compared to this. But whatever, it didn't cost anything to do.

it literally took about 4 minutes when the car was in the air. i had a rack to use so it made life easy, but mods do not get any easier than this. i felt a huge difference in my e90 so i guess it depends on each person, but before cdv removal, short shift arm and new lever bearing, i was close to getting rid of this car! now it feels like a proper gear box. do it!

I just the cdv delete on my 328i and i dont know why i held off for so long. amazing feeling being able to shift from 1-2 without giving your passenger a whiplash
One word of advice. When bleeding the clutch (highly recomended) make sure you top up the brake fluid above MAX and after a few pumps and releases of the clutch top it up again. The clutch resevoir in the brake canister has a spill over partition so if you just look at the main brake fluid and see that it is topped up, the clutch side is propably nearly empty. I did a reverse bleed using a brand new oil can and pumped the fluid from the slave cylinder to the brake fluid canister. That will get all the air out almost 100% over pumping the clutch pedal since bubbles naturally want to travel up. A must do mod on our cars!

CDV delete
My E39's made a smooth 1-2 shift impossible with the CDV. I quickly removed them. Not so with the E92, though I don't rush the synchros, so I may not remove it. The delete is incredibly simple, just be sure and use the proper tools, cap off the fluid line, and to be meticulous ... bleed the slave cylinder.
If you're concerned about your warranty, you can replace the CDV with one that has its guts removed (this is a much more valid concern in terms of warranty maintenance than the "only service with BMW approved oil" worry ... clutches DO fail, engines almost never fail if the oil level is maintained). In this case, bleeding the system is a must. |

I agree with all the posters that it's a must do mod. I also can't believe I waited years before doing it. Made a huge difference. I had an indy shop do it while I was in for other maintenance. They bled the line after installing the modified CDV from Zeckhausen.
