Yea. I have USB issues with my iPod anyways as well it loses connection and forgets the spot in the playlist and then the idrive knob can't select another song by pushing down on it. I have to back out of the playlist all together and go back into it. That's why I'm pushing for an update.

Just download the torrent copy the contents to a USB, and insert it in the glove box USB port. If it doesn't come up, click on Nav, Options and software update.

Us with the older CIC do not have this option.

I wish I could join the successful side. Hopefully the dealer updates my firmware.

glad to help and even more happy that it worked as expected...

I replaced the heated steering wheel module in my car after you left and went for a drive and as awful as that #6 plug looked and as bad as it sounded when I started it up after replacing (it never sounded that bad before) after the computer readapted it's running better than ever and I'm not feeling the surging that prompted the plug replacement. I threw some Techron in the tank and filled up again and am keeping my fingers crossed I don't need a new injector...

I don't have "Software Update" in my Options menu. Tried using a 32GB
Sandisk, it still didn't mount. Looks like a trip to the dealer for me as well!

Good to hear others have no issues!!

Hey ThunderDump, I just checked this out and the grey box and black map
scale box does NOT disappear when I press down on the iDrive controller in
the main map screen.. Am I pre-2010 original firmware?

Well I can't say for 100% certainty (since there could have been more than one version out at that time), I would hazard a guess and say yes you are, and this is why you can't update from the USB port.

I wonder if its better that someone posts this to the newsgroups.. easier to download and no need for seeding...

DL'ing and seeding as we speak. I'm going to keep it seeding as long as I can, but I'm on my Uni network, and torrenting is definitely frowned upon, so I'm going to have to schedule/throttle the upload speed. But I have finals for the next 10 days, so I'll keep it going 24/7 (or until I get a notice!) with some sort of variable upload speed.

Map update

Thanks for the info. Just updated my 2011 BMW 528I. Worked perfectly, took about 1 hour with USB.
Map 2013 1A . Sergej was quick.
Dealer told me I had to bring car in for map update. He was obviously wrong.
Good luck everyone.

Also failed on USB update attempt -- 08/09 build. I'm pretty sure I have the old firmware. I've experienced transmission/power loss on several occassions similar to what the 2009 M series were experiencing that required a FW update to fix. For example -- when I approached an intersection where I was going to make a right turn and touch the brake... I changed my mind when I can see that I can beat the oncoming traffic, so I quickly changed to the gas pedal -- but there's no power for about 2 seconds! So instead of quickly making the turn, I'm helplessly rolling around the corner waiting for a T-bone. The accelerator kicked in just in time so there was no harm except for an angry oncoming driver.

I have a 2009 328xit with performance and sports pkg including paddle shifters. is it possible that I have the same issue as the 2009 DCT M cars?

BTW - Sandisk Cruzer USB2 took 50 minutes to write all the data from my laptop. The Sandisk Extreme USB3 took only 3 minutes! When I stuck the Extreme in a USB2 slot and tried again, it took about 20 minutes. There appears to be some benefit to a high-end USB3 stick even in a a USB2 port. Of course the Extreme costs as least twice as much as a low-end USB3 stick -- but costs a bit less than the comparable Lexar Triton drive. YMMV.

I actually get that too where the transmission is confused on what gear to be in if you slow down and then almost come to a stop and then try to gas it. There is a delay in acceleration
