unplug the actuator=resonator disabled?
Hi everyone,
I am a new e90 335i owner and I am trying to customize my ride, but I do not know much about tuning cars, and I am curious about the resonator delete things. Days ago I bought a catback bastuck exhaust system, and I was a little disappointed coz it was not as loud as I expected, so I looked for other ways to louder it, one of my friends, 335i owner as well, said unplug the actuator in the drivers side tail light=disable the resonator, and I tried to search e90post, indeed there is a post says it will provide a better sound, but as I perceive it is different w/ resonator delete or disable, and it never mentioned similar things. So are these works do the different part on sound? or my friend is right? |

welcome!
if you have the Bastuck Exhaust installed, the actuator is useless because installing the Bastuck already disables the actuator. So in a sense, you have already did the actuator mod. If you exhaust is catback, then it means your resonator has already been removed by taking out the stock system.

The Bastuck is not a catback exhaust but an axle back. If you want more sound and more response and power put some Catless or Catted Dps .

Either get a Catless Down Pipe system (ie. ARdesign, or similiar DP manufacturer), or if you are worried about emissions and passing them, keep the stock DP's and just remove the secondary Cats (there are two) and just get some straight pipe put in place... (if the system you got was just an axleback system)

First Thanks for all above!!
So now I know it is useless to plan any work on resonator or actuator, and maybe downpipe is the only way to go? but it comes out w/ other question. I know there are catted and catless, catless will be louder, but what i am wondering is 2.5" and 3" downpipes, do they have a big difference on sound? |

my bastuck muffler took a about 1000-2000km before it was fully broken in and it got a bit louder. its just an axle back so it wont be that much louder than stock. id suggest doing a 2nd cat delete...its quite a bit louder and you can hear the tone better. if its still not enough get some catless downpipes
