Had an S5 for a day..

No disrespect to anyone that owns or has one of these but I have no idea what the appeal or the reason behind the popularity of these cars (A5 or S5). I was totally unimpressed and felt completely disconnected from the road. Yes it has nice seats but the engine was so boring and I really did not feel alive in the car. I find them more of a competitor to Mercedes then BMW.

I was actually considering an S5 over my 335i last year. Test drove it and i never thought of it again. I know exactly what you mean.

I think that the car is an absolutely beautiful looker, the interior is nice and the Audi V8 sound is sooooo intoxicating, but my 335 is so much more fun. Hopefully the RS5 is much more impressive.

Low speed steering will make you think you're in a Cadillac.

Exact feelings. I do think its the most appealing look wise coupe` under 80k. The engine is nice and the ergonomics inside are nice. BUT the drive and feel is nothing even close to comparable with BMW. Sadly so.

Ya I looked at them as well and was eager to get out of it. they look nice but delivery no thrills for the money. A guy at my gym who happens to be a giant douche but that is beside the point had an S5 and got rid of it for a new M3 because he was handed his butt by one. His S5 had exhaust intake and something else and still lost bad he said. He turned it in the next week for the M3.lol

Yeah well as the original poster said,
that the Audi really is more a competitor to benz sounds about right to me and doesn't really come as a suprise.

BMW is more a performance oriented brand where as Audi is more luxury.

So you buy whatever you want depending on what you want from a car..

I actually enjoy pushing the S5 more than the 335i in stock trim. I guess it's just me. The S5 just seems to be planted with endless grip, especially over imperfect roads. None of the squirrly bumpsteer of the 3er. But to each his own.

This is the same way I feel about my brother's 2010 S4. Looks sexy as hell but you don't really feel the nice hug of the seats when hanging a turn, feel of the road is nonexistent, and steering wheel is way too light... sexy car but as a car for driving.. =\

I recently drove past an S5 earlier this evening, and I must say that it looks very good.

Garage List
I have to admit that I think the S5's steering isn't it's greatest feature, it's far too light at slow speeds and the weighting up doesn't improve the feel, though that said it's without slack and it's extremely precise which is something needed as important as feel. The surprise is that the S4 uses the same system yet feels better, I can't explain it and the only real difference is the smaller engine under the hood.

Saw the S5 cabriolet last night, I'm slowly liking the cabrio more and more. I'd get the coupe instead tho. Still need to test drive one.

I had the same impression. Everything about the S5 is better than the 335 except the MPG, rear seat room, price, and most importantly, the driving feel/connection (which was the final deal breaker). But boy, it is beautiful inside and out.

The EPA says the 335 is 17/26 and S5 is 14/22. Price wise for me, the MSRP was a few grand higher for the S5 and leasing was almost 30% higher (poor residuals, higher MF, less negotiation off MSRP on S5)!
