Move to a state with no front plate requirement if you want to complain about this. If you're not willing to move over something so trivial pay the ticket and get over it. A third option is to do something about the ridiculous law and get it changed.

It's a lame chickenshit law. The cop might be just doing his job but why are we collectively forcing our police to be hall monitors over nonsense like this? I sympathize, this is a bullshit position to be in. I would encourage OP to reconsider filing a complaint on the officer and use his frustration in a more productive manner, such as writing to local officials.

The problem I see with it is we live in the world we live in. While an educated minority may fall into the fifth and sixth stage, the overwhelming majority of the populace falls into the first four. When you knowingly break the law you should be ready for the consequences. You mentioned it at the end of your post, but I'd like to reiterate that if you find a law ridiculous you should devote some sort of effort to getting it changed. I find that too many people bitch to hear themselves talk instead of taking meaningful action to change the thing they're bitching about.

"if you find a law ridiculous" is key in your statement above. Some people choose to be law abiding, and a front plate law is no where as serious as the controversial nature of the stand your ground laws in several states. Hence the reason for action being taken to review it. Ranting on a forum claiming profiling for a silly offense doesn't help change the law either.

This. The only cars with legit European plates are the ones that were registered in Europe and then federalized in the US. The rest are just poser bullshit and should get a ticket for having a false registration. Fun fact: you can drive on US plates legally in Europe if the car is registered in the US. My friend had his E30 325is in London on Illinois plates for years. Great way to avoid speed cameras and parking tickets. At least it was.

True I deserve the ticket for having it on illegally, and wouldn't even be bothered if it was another cop besides the one who pulled me over. Two in a row from the same highway patrol seems unlikely compared to say two in a row from the same cop within your town.

Ohio troopers aren't exactly known for their empathy. I grew up in the Cleveland area and the local cops would write you a warning and you would go down to the station, show them the installed plate and be done. The OHP would write you up, end of story, done deal - and that was 25 yrs ago.

They still actively look for "failure to display", my wife and I were headed back south after an OH visit a couple years ago and over the 230 miles, we had two troopers on I-71S actually slow up to force us to pass so they could see if it was an easy ticket - sorry, boys, no 2nd plate required here.

I drive the midwest and south fairly extensively and this has also happened to me in other 2 plate states, including MO, IL and TX - my advice is put the plate back on the car, many states are broke and looking for additional revenue streams

I'd suggest you get a small bmw roundal (like a wheel centercap ) and cover the hole for now if that's the only reason for the euro plate. Then find a used bumper cover the same color, sooner or later your gonna want to replace it.

I agree with what you said wholeheartedly. I believe in nonviolent resistance, such as ignoring laws like this. I also vote for a party that supports my cause by stressing individual liberty and the right to privacy. I also hope that through my educational efforts and position, that one day I can hold office or be a big enough lawyer to make a difference for motorcycle and car enthusiasts. While this is a small issue in the grand scheme of things, it still is obviously something that lowers the quality of life for people who are proud of their cars.

Ultimately, I am pretty disappointed that the most minor things are now subject to government intervention and widespread cockblocking. I honestly feel like police were once respected members of the community with great responsibility and respect. Nowadays they seem to slot somewhere between tax collector and occupiers, and petty laws are part of the reason people share my sentiments.
