BBK for easy pad changes only
I'm really looking for an easy way to change pads for track days (about 14 per year) and alleviate some or all of the fade. I'm the kind of guy that wants a lot of value and is a little lazy.
With that said it seems like a BBK may be the best way to go. I like the idea of pulling the pads out the top. Perfect for a lazy guy. Checking wheels the night before can easily include a pad change also. Sweet. If it were easier to do I definitely would not be looking to put BBKs on. If I don't do this I know I'll never change the pads with the stock calipers. It doesn't seem too complicated. I'm just a little lazy. In turn, I'll be living with marginal brake performance. Argggghhhh! After a bunch of reading I would like to go with the UUC/Wilwood kit, ft. and rr. I know there's a lot of debate whether these are as good as 1 brand or another but I'm not concerned. With easy pad changes, SS lines, and an operating cost that is much lower than other BBKs I feel like I'll experience a lot better braking with great value and ease. Does this sound like a solution for a value lover who's a little lazy? |

UUC doesn't have pricing for the 335 yet, but I can't imagine it being more than a couple hundred dollars more than the 325 - 330 models.
That being said, with how many track days you do a year, yes, this would be a viable upgrade for you. Changing pads is much easier on the race brake systems. Check out their Caliper Spreader ($200) for really easy pad change. I usually put my race pads on at home so I can properly seat them prior to going to the track and then deal with the squeel and noise for the ride too and from the track. With the larger brakes, you don't have to go crazy with pad choice to get superior braking over stock. If you go with 6-piston up front, then you have 5 more pistons than you did over stock.

Noticed that Rotora makes a caliper kit for the E92. It's available now. Any reason not to get this and wait for the Wilwood? I would like to have the brakes on for the first HPDEs next year.

If you compare the construction of the calipers of all brands then you'll see who stands out for the money. Case in point: Stoptechs are forged calipers while the Brembos are cast. You have to get the GTR Brembos to get forged calipers and then they are $10K.

AW325xi, Thanks for the critique. I wasn't sure about the Rotoras. I'll wait for the Wilwoods. I understand they're forged and great on the track. They're also pretty cheap.

Jbass - whichever you want to go with the Willwood or the Stoptech's like we did for AW325xi just let us know. I think the Stoptech's are at a great price point especially with fitment for 18" wheels. The Brembo's are great in terms of value their rotors lifetime is the best out there compared to many of the other brands. But with the Stoptech's or Brembo's in terms of pads you can do quite a bit of combinations versus some other BBK's like Rotora's.
Anyway let us know if we can help |

I like the idea of Wilwoods: using my own rotors, low entry and maintenance costs also. I know StopTechs are amazing but I just don't have that in the budget. |

Stoptech's front and rear
Great wheel clearance and pad selection. 355mm 6 piston front, 345mm 4 pistom rear. The kit is not cheap, but you get what you pay for.

Now you've gone and done it. I just need to get myself emotionally ready for dropping 5 large on those. I'm in Norcal. We say things like that.
I would bet I end up with the same setup. I see you have the Direzzas. I just can't say enough about them. I was in heavy rain at Infineon over the weekend and they were awesome. On top of that they wear perfectly. |

They are the 355mm 6-piston fronts and the 345mm 4-piston rears.
The only other option is 4-piston fronts I think. These brakes work well. Get some heat into them and hit the brakes hard and it is like you put an anchor out (not that they work bad when they're cool either). I can't wait to see how they do at the track with track pads! And yes, the Advans do make great track wheels.

The AP Racing BBK I had on my G35 were Awesome. Very Popular in the American Lemans Series & NASCAR to name a few. They had 355mm(14.25") Rotors 6-piston Calipers up front and 4-piston Calipers w/ 13" rotors in the rear. You could just pull out the old pads & drop the new ones right through the top of the Caliper in no time.
I noticed **********s has them: http://www.**********s.com/dept.aspx?dept_id=12-025-006 And Autobahn Exotics has kits for the E90/92's now. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3702574I Track Video showing how Good these Brakes are:

On a different note - guys those of you looking at the Stoptech package, we have a major coupon out for this is Black Friday (on our site) I've never seen it this agressive in terms of pricing. So if you were thinking about getting a BBK now would be the time to do it. |

I think with the amount you are tracking and what you're seeking, a bbk would be a good value to you.
As far as kits available, I've heard mixed reviews on Rotora. They tend to vibrate the steering wheel even when seated properly. AP Racing and Brembo are obvious choices. I like both and have heard only good things about both. I opted for brembo since at the time AP didn't make a setup for my model. |

Have had absolutely no problem with the Rotora's either street or track. Also, EBC makes pads that fit the rotora 6-piston, so pads option are available.
As for getting what you paid for, one could say the same thing about Omega vs Rolex. Better? -that depends on what’s important to you. Both movements if serviced regularly and reasonably cared for have an excellent chance of outlasting you. The Rolex, all things being equal, is apt to be a better rate keeper. However, the odds of the average owner noticing the difference is probably close to nil. One is 3x the cost of the other. That holds true for the Rotora vs etc. argument. Are you that "above" average driver that operates at that edge of the envelope where the difference between forged and cast can actually be noticed? Personally I wouldn't give two squirts of piss for what vendors say, they're in it for the $$, especially in these hard times. Do some research, you might end up saving a few $$ and get all the performance you need. |
