BBS LMs vs. LC reps
I'm in the market for new rims.
On the short list are the BBS LMs. Naturally, they're classics. But looking at the BBS prices, I also had to add the Linea Corse reps to the list. Naturally, they're affordable versions of the originals. I know the BBS product is superior. That's a given -- you get what you pay for. But from a pure looks standpoint, would I be giving up anything by going with the reps? Honestly, from a distance, how much difference is there between the BBS rims and the reps? I'm sure some of you have gone thru the same deliberation... appreciate your comments. TIA!

Personally, I buy something for its performance and not its looks. Why not look for a used set of LMs? Or go with a different wheel that has similar performance.

For performance, I'm looking at the Forgestar F14s. Lightweight and decent looking. OTOH, the LMs (and the reps) are all about looks. Performance-wise, they're a bit on the heavy side. Either would be a compromise, but most things in life are. Just not sure which is the BETTER compromise.

If you get the LM rep, use the LC center cap. What is the price range you are going for? There are wheels out there that aren't that expensive but still top quality.

I dont see anything wrong with reps, they get the job done at a fraction of the cost. But honestly if i bought reps i couldnt sleep at night.

It's a "herd" on these boards, but in the real world I don't see that many LMs, real or rep.

I sorta agree. Seems kinda like cheating.

I am saving!!!
But rims aren't the only thing on the shopping list. Also want the GIAC tune, and the new Performance diffuser (which means I'll also have to buy the Mtech bumper), among other things...

Sorry to but I'm in a similar situation.
I currently have a set of LC Lemans but I'm iffy about mounting them because the quality of reps is questionable -- though many good things have been said about Linea Corse. What other wheel is of "better" quality in the $1-1.5k range? |

I can't justify spending the asking price for real LM's because they ARE a lot of money, and that's not the only thing I plan to do to my car. I'm also a college student, so $4k+ on JUST wheels not feasible. LC Lemans + tires + coilovers + exhaust = 1 set of BBS LM's. I'll take the reps... All these haters on reps... We want the look but can only afford the second best option -- reps. Don't hate, ... |

I know there is a war between reps and reals but IMO I don't mind having reps. Righ now I'm running LC Lemans and I have hit a ton of potholes and driven on crappy roads and they are still straight. I love my set because I got them for a good price and they have been able to withstand the beatings. I'm not saying I wouldn't mind a real set of BBS's but for the price, I'll pass. Somewhere a long the road I'll finally pick up a real set but for now my reps will do. Also, I don't front and run BBS caps on my LC's.

Not completely sure why, but I can always tell the difference between the reps and real LMs. I think the centers are not as big with the reps and the lips are not as "polished"

No matter who makes 'em, tho, the LM-style wheel always looks good to me.
