German Speed cameras

I'm wondering if anyone has a good understanding on how the German speed cameras work...

I was driving on the autobahn, some date and time in the past at some undisclosed location , and both the car in front of me and I were slightly over the limit. The car in front set off the cameras (on the side of the road at the guard rail.. speed trap type) and I counted the flashes and only saw one. I guess my question is should I be expecting a fine in the mail too or would the camera's/radar been focused on the guy in front of me?

Thanks.

You never get speed tickets when you are driving on the autobahn.

The cameras on the autobahn are not radars or anything like that but cameras who controls the "flow" in traffic and checking that everything is allright!

I dont think you will get a speed ticket,,,

NB: i take my plates off when i drive on the autobahn then you can have fun ::P

These weren't the cameras on the scaffolding that hang over the autobahn, they were cameras placed on the side of the autobhan near the guard rail as a speed trap.

I watched the discovery channel and they were talking about the cameras to capture drivers that are following other cars from behind and too close(is that called fish tailing in America?). The TV show was aimed at the Autobahn.

The camera is engage and it uses horizontal white lines on the pavement which act as a distance/gap reference.

I saw something like that on the History Channel, it was used to catch people who are tailgating.

I thought some sections of the autobahn were speed limited except for those with the circle and three lines through it.

these cameras are located on the overpasses.. they have a big square solar panel on them, whenever you see white lines just before an overpass thats the signal to back off the guy in front.

Are you joking dude..?!
In my short career on the Autobahn, i already received two speed tickets. One time more than 35 km/h over the speed limit...

I think the most speed tickets are taken on the Autobahn..

The cameras on the Autobahn can take more than 20 photos in the second, so they can identify all cars... the car in front of you, your car, the car behind you, the next car and so on.

I cross the fingers for you dude, that you dont receive a ticket!

Since you only saw one flash, you WON'T receive any ticket for the simple fact that there can only be ONE vehicle in the photo, and the car preceding you set the camera off. I got flashed 5 months ago driving on Autobahn 9 towards Berlin (doing 80-85 km/h on a 60 km/h construction area) and the car in front of mine set off the camera (single flash, same situation as yours). I never received the ticket. How fast were you going?

Your are germen. Thats different. I went to Frankfurt last month. We where going like 230 (in my VW at that time) and i got flashed. A big &#¤%&#¤% flash in daylight.
But i dont have to worry. They dont send ticket to Denmark.
But i dont think that your father would be wery happe exo-ak-dk that you take off his plates and go wild on he germen autobahn.
When you get stopped you are fucked - they will take the car.
Its not the cameras you have to worry about. Its only the police cars.

It generally takes a month or two if you're in the military. I've had a couple. Just remember to pay it right away when you get it. If you don't the price goes up....and if you happen to forget, then your license get suspended.

If you're going way over the speed limit, they'll take your license away for 30 days....just like E 90 says.

normaly if your going over 100MPH you will hardly get the ticket. but i think the camaras might be using lasers. most of the time you can tell when the camara is in the box cause you can see the yellow or red light.

I got a 140 in a 100 and the fine was 146 euro. I was lucky because one more kph was over 250 euro and 1 month license suspension.

You have to be careful... Especially if you have USAEUR drivers license. The Germans are not the ones doing the f@cking in that situation... Its USAEUR!
Most tickets that are above the speed limit and up to 10k do not carry any points for the Germans... but you get slammed for points regardless if you have a USAEUR drivers license...

You are pretty much on your own if you think the ticket is not valid as most JAG offices will seem to help you but are really not.

You can rack up points quick if you are not careful... if you hit 12 points its game over for you...

be careful...
